“But that’s… fantastic. Why were you crying? This morning. I’m sorry, but there must be absolutely no insulation in your walls. You might as well have been standing right next to me.”

“My parents want me to come home. To Bloomington.”

“Well, you can’t. You absolutely must go to Kentucky. This is an incredible opportunity and the fact that Vance singled you out—well, there’s nothing more to say.”

She narrowed her moss-green eyes on him. “And this doesn’t bother you?”

“Why should it bother me?” That statement was flat out aggravating.

“So, you spoke to Mr. Vance.”

“Yeah. Basically, he said my performance on Opening Night was good, but the rest of the week was shit.”

“That’s not true!”

For the first time in a week, something in his chest cracked open and he grinned. “He did. More importantly, he was right.”

She poured out the coffee and took out milk from the old refrigerator.

“There’s something else,” he said. “I overheard you telling Tina that relationships in the theater didn’t usually go beyond the show. I took her words and yours at face value. I was…” He shook his head.

“Hurt?”

“Devastated.”

“And now?”

“First, I want you to know, I’d already thought something was off. But then last night, I heard Tina and Jay—”

“Jay?”

“The lighting guy. Apparently, he has a crush on you and Tina was setting things up for him to ask you out.”

Her elbow landed on the counter, her forehead in an open palm. “Theater drama is the worst.”

“I guess I have trust issues. I’m really sorry.”

She lifted her head and pierced him with her penetrating gaze. “And where do you propose we go from here?”

“Obviously, you’re going to Louisville. You would be an idiot not to.”

“Yes.”

He stared down into his coffee. “Well, I guess I don’t know much after that.” He heard the small clink of her cup being set on the counter. A second later, her arms wrapped his waist from behind.

“Neither do it,” she whispered against his shoulder.

He spun around slowly and caged her between his legs, relishing her in his hold. “Is it too soon to be so in love with someone?”

“I think so.” She lifted her face to him. He lowered his mouth to hers, brushed his lips back and forth, until the tip of her tongue touched him.

His dick responded. Not the time.He put his hands on her shoulders to push her away, but she clung to him, and her tongue swept into his mouth, turning him into a mindless zombie. He slanted his head and took over her velvet soft mouth, wondering ifThe Walking Deadwas holding open auditions anytime soon.

He pushed his hand through her flower-scented hair, groaning as his dick strained against his zipper. “Will you be taking your pink friend with you to Louisville?” he murmured against her lips.

“Unless you need it for company,” she whispered back, pushing her hands under his shirt to his bare skin.

“That’s it. I’ve missed you for a week. And while it was my own stupid doing, I’m done with waiting.”
