“Well, that’s it,”Maylis said to Jen.

“Yeah. Will you be all right if I don’t go straight back to the apartment with you? I need to talk to Josh.” Josh had a minor part in another production down the street. Most of the shows ended around the same time and the theater crowds were filling up the restaurants and coffee houses. Jen had been seeing Josh since the first couple of weeks after getting to Louisville.

“I’ll be fine. I have a phone call to make,” she said, hitting the door.

“And, just who were you planning on calling?” The low growl came out of the darkness, but it sent ripples of awareness over Maylis. She was so stunned, she froze, causing Jen to bump her from the back and into Aiden’s arms.

“Later,” Jen said.

Aiden swept her out of the doorway and took her mouth. His lips set her blood on fire. His tongue, hot and wet, heated her inside out. Her panties grew uncomfortable. Her arms wrapped his neck, her legs, his waist.

She wore too many clothes.Hewore too many clothes. She hadn’t seen him since watching him drive away after hauling her and her meager belongings to Louisville. She’d missed him. Talking to him every couple of nights, even using her pink companion while they were on the phone hadn’t sated her need for him.

“What are you doing here?” She panted against his neck.

“I couldn’t miss your opening night, could I?”

Her nose wrinkled. “Well…”

“It’s all right, babe. I know the show is closing. They were putting the notice up out front. I’m sorry. God, you are so talented. I had no idea you could sing like that.”

“Thatwasthe funnest part of the whole thing.”

He squeezed her butt. “Should I get a hotel?”

“No. Jen won’t be home for a while.” She slid down his body. The bulge in his jeans ignited her. “I love you—”

He lost his hold on her and her feet hit the ground hard. “What?”

She pressed her hands to her cheeks. “Oh, god. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. That just slipped out.”

“Let’s go.” He grabbed her hand and tugged her down the street. “I parked at your apartment and walked here.”

Aiden didn’t waitfor her to unlock her door, snatching the keys from her hand and handling the task himself. “We’re going to make good use of your “pink companion” tonight, by god. I’m done not having you when I want you.” He tossed her keys on the floor next to the door, yet somehow remembering to lock it behind them.

He shoved her jacket off her shoulders and tossed it aside. He couldn’t undress her here. He swept her up in his arms and carried her to her bedroom, kicking the door shut behind them. He tossed her on the twin bed and tore off his own jacket and shirt. His shoes, socks, underwear came off with his jeans. He prowled to the bed. Grabbed her ankle and jerked, felling her to her back.

With a flick of his fingers, he had her jeans undone and was tossing them in the corner on top of a basket of clothes. He didn’t bother with her shirt. Not yet, pushing her legs apart and diving in with his tongue. One touch with his mouth and her climax shuddered through her and flooding his mouth.

“Did you get on the pill like you said you were gonna do?”

“Yes.”

Unable to wait another second, he positioned his penis at her pussy and shoved himself in. He pounded her body. “I. Love. You. Too.” He repeated his mantra over and over until she was tightening around him again. Until he’d spent himself in her. His legs were shaking. “I love you too,” he said against the tee shirt she still wore. Slowly, he rose and pulled her shirt over her head, licked the edge of her bra, then sat back to watch her nipples react to his ministrations. Then leaned in again.

She shoved at his chest, unhooked her bra from the front fastener, letting her breasts spill free. “And just where does that leave us?” There was a tremor in her voice she couldn’t conceal.

“New York, I think,” he said, his gaze never leaving her breasts. He’d missed those perfectly formed globes.

“New York!”

He lifted his eyes to hers. This was serious business. It required addressing before anything else could move forward. “You need an agent, babe. Powell’s great, but you need someone that representsyou. I have a friend—he’s helping me with a project I’m writing—he’ll know of someone.”

She stared at him, her mouth hanging open.

With an index finger, he lifted her chin, effectively closing her mouth then scanned the room. “Now, if there are no more comments or questions, I have one of my own.”
