“Your former boss? The one who asked you to join him on a job for General Armand?”

“Yes. We called him because we wanted to see if he’d heard of any vigilante group who feared werewolves enough to have traveled down here.”

“There are always people who fear wolves. They kill cattle and other animals. That’s not new,” Tawny said.

“I know, but like we mentioned before, we’re not talking aboutthosekinds of wolves.”

“Ah, you mean our kind.”

“Yes. An incident happened in a nearby town in Canada in which a group of maybe five people showed up with the sole purpose of eliminating our kind.”

She glanced down at the table for a moment and then looked up at them both. “This human vigilante group?”

“Yes.”

Alex was impressed with her control. “We thought we’d ask your dad tomorrow to call General Armand. He might have more information.”

“I’m sure he’d call his friend, but if these fringe groups are here, why hasn’t my dad mentioned them before?”

“He might not know about them yet. It’s not like the locals can put it up on social media that our kind is being targeted.”

“True.”

Their drinks arrived, and Tawny downed half her glass. Alex hadn’t meant to shake her to the core, but she needed to understand the possibility that all Grangers might be targeted.

“I wouldn’t have considered the possibility had they not carved that symbol in your brother’s back. We had thought the Franklin Clan might have been responsible, but if your brother said they were humans, that eliminates them.”

“True. Did those near your town have those kind of carvings too?”

“I don’t know. Neither Rider, Liam, or I were involved in the case.”

She sank back against the seat. “Here’s what bugs me. If they are humans, how did they know that Zach was…you know?”

“That’s what we’d like to find out,” Alex said.

Liam drank part of his beer. “Suppose you wanted to learn about some drug dealers, for example. How would you go about it?”

“Me?”

“Hypothetically.”

“I’d ask around, I guess.”

He nodded. “You might want to bug a few places and listen in to their conversation.”

Tawny sat up straighter and looked around. “You mean like this bar? It’s where a lot hang out.”

“I can tell, but remember, it’s a theory, though a reasonable one,” Liam said.

When she leaned forward, Alex had to focus on the issue at hand and not on what this woman was doing to his cock and his mind.

“What about Zach?” she asked.

Alex cocked a brow. “What about him?”

“In theory, he’s dead. If he suddenly shows up to work, who’s to say these fanatics won’t try to kill him again.”

Alex stabbed a hand through his hair. “You’re right. Will your family announce that Zach died, or will they claim he’s still missing?”
