But she returned to her cooking, as Ferg and the boys were out hunting today, and she wanted to serve them a hearty meal when they returned. She enjoyed the hearty way the men ate, and the appreciation that had for her cooking. It gave her confidence, and so did the look in Matt's eyes.

All day Matt kept throwing her sexy glances and all day she blushed feeling that strange and wonderful thrill that only he could give her.

But when Ferg returned, Raz had been bitten by a wild boar and Snow Bird and Margaret rushed to doctor him, throwing her into a completely different frame of mind instantly. Everyone gathered around to hear what had happened. Raz was bleeding a lot and the pain must have been excruciating as his face contorted into many emotions at once.

Matt turned to Ferg. "How did this happen?" His face tightening with concern for his friends.

"We were chasing the boar, and several others. They doubled back on us. We were in the rocks, high like and Raz lost his footing and fell right into the gang of them. He's got some bad wounds." Ferg looked extremely worried now.

Snow Bird worked meticulously on the wound, cleaning them, Margaret ran to get bandages for him. Snow Bird quickly went to her blanket where she kept herbs that healed and brought them to the stove to heat up. When the poultice was done, she took it to Margaret who applied it liberally all over. He had at least ten bites, some quite severe.

Margaret looked up at Ferg, "Can I talk to you."

Seeing the concern on her face he nodded.

Margaret told Snow Bird to continue, as she got up off the floor and went toward Ferg.

"Sure," Ferg nodded, his concern on his face had Margaret grabbing his arms and pulling him out of ear-shot.

She carefully whispered her fears to him.

Ferg's head jerked up. "Can anything be done?"

"Not that I know of. There is no medicine for rabies that I know of."

"How long before we know?"

"Could be a month to usually three months, have seen it wait for a year or so to happen, once he has the symptoms he'll die soon afterwards. Did you notice the animals, were any of them foaming at the mouth?" Margaret glanced at Raz once more.

"Dear God!" Ferg's expression festered. "One of them we noticed and thought it a bit odd that it had white stuff all over his mouth as he died. Yes."

"We'll need to keep him isolated until we know for sure." Margaret told him. "Or until you leave here."

"I've known that boy all his life. We grew up together. I can't believe something like this…"

"I'm sorry, but I thought you should know." Margaret put her hand on Ferg's. "If it's rabies there's little we can do."

Ferg stared at her, and holding back his emotions he nodded at her, then looked at her hands. Margaret pinked a little, and he smiled. "I thank you for telling me." He started to walk off, then turned and glanced over his shoulder at her, "You're a good woman, Margaret."

She smiled sadly at him.

"I'll do all I can for him…" she promised.

"Thanks Miss Margaret, God love ya." Ferg nodded.

As Margaret and Snow Bird were busy trying to make Raz comfortable, Snow Bird glanced at her and she knew she knew. Snow Bird had tears in her eyes.

"He is a good man." Snow Bird mumbled.

"We don't know yet," Margaret told her in a whisper, "and we can't say a word of it to anyone. It could cause a real panic."

Snow Bird nodded.

Ferg gathered the boys and Matt and went outside to tell them.

"Are you sure, he's got it?" Matt cried out.

"No, can't be sure for a while. We'll have to watch him and keep him away from the others. If they knew they'd probably kick us all out of there now."
