“Yes, I think that is fine. You and I can get together before you leave today to discuss what you want me to go over with your security at the estate,” Wolf said.

“Great and Grayson said that is fine and for me to fill him in with all the details when I get home today. I will go over everything when we get you guy to the house and I get packed to leave for Ft. Wayne tonight,” Ava said.

“Okay, then that leaves the rest of us. Kadon and I are on assignments already so we will be back up. Connors I know you will be working everything from your end. Terry how about you track down Jake and keep an eye on him. Bryan can keep an eye on Emma, and we will bring Jason in to keep an eye on Wayne,” Wyatt said.

“I can keep an eye on Emma and then Bryan can keep an eye on Wayne and Jason can be on standby,” Ava said.

“Ava, I don’t think that is a good idea. I am sure they already know you are Grayson’s wife,” Wyatt said.

“You are probably right,” Ava replied.

“Okay, everyone has their assignments. Let’s get to it,” Wyatt said.

Everyone got up and started to head out of the room but Blair. He touches my arm asking me to wait a minute.

Once everyone had left the room. He looked at me and said, “Emma, I am so sorry that happened to you. It pisses me off that there are men like that in the world, but it pisses me off more that it happened to you. I know Bryan is looking after you, but if you need anything, even if you have a bad feeling about anything or a bad dream, you call me. I will be there immediately,” Blair said.

I looked at him for a few seconds thinking that what I was hearing that he wasn’t saying and the look in his eyes was him having feelings for me. But I couldn’t be right. That was just wishful thinking.

“Thank you, Detective, I mean Blair. I appreciate that so much. I know you are a busy man,” I replied.

“Never to busy to come to your rescue,” he said, and he got up and walked out the door before I could say anything else.

Bryan walked back in then and said that there were a few things he wanted to go over with me before I was ready to go home. For instance, what was my routine.

We all head out then. When I get to my car, I waited for Bryan to pull up behind me before I left. He had already called in one of their guards to come work with him, so they could take turns sleeping while watching my apartment. They would follow me until I got into the gates of the estate then go home for the day. Bryan would then be back when I got ready to leave. He only wanted a second set of eyes with him when he hadn’t been prepared to be up all night. Jason and Terry will have someone with them while watching Wayne and Jake and Wyatt and Kadon and someone else would rotate them out so they could get a shower and food.

When we got to my apartment building. I parked in front of my apartment and Kadon backed into a spot on the back row facing my building.

I went inside and went straight to my couch, threw my hands over my face, let a small scream, and cried. I just couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I finally got up and took a shower and got in the bed but could not fall asleep. It was going to be a long night.

CHAPTEREIGHT

Blair

On my way to the station and I can’t stop thinking about Emma’s story. I hate domestic violence, and I am a firm believer that the abusers get the whole book thrown at them. It always seems to happen to the sweetest, most kindhearted women. The ones who don’t hurt anyone and will give their last to help someone in need. This really pisses me off. She deserves so much better. I am the better. But my job is dangerous. However, I am learning from the Seals and Bounty guys that just because the job is dangerous, doesn’t mean you can’t find love and happiness. Maybe I am scared for reason. I know damn well I can treat her the way she deserves to be treated and love her like no one else can.

I go into the station and head straight for Sergeant Harper’s office and tell her that I need to speak with her and Captain Shepherd.

We knock on Captain Shepherd’s door, and he tells us to come in. We sit down, and I begin to explain the conversation at Seals and Bounty. I informed them of what Emma had heard, how she had met Wayne and Jake, the background and criminal check that the team had done and the plan that they put together and what they were handling.

“Okay. Looks like they have surveillance taken care of and security for Emma. Let me know what Ava finds out from the foster mother. I will make calls to the other police stations where the robberies took place in the other states. Sergeant Harper, make the calls to the surrounding areas. Detective Connors, you will work with Seals and Bounty on surveillance and detail when they need it and when the files come back on the other cases, you and Sergeant Harper will compare them and see if anything stands out. When we get these guys, I am thinking because of the multiple state lines, they will be tried in a federal court. But the work the two of you do with these files will determine this. I am not calling in the FBI until we know for sure there are similarities in the cases. I don’t want them taking over unless they need to. Understood?” Captain Shepherd said.

“Yes,” Sergeant Harper and I said at the same time.

Sergeant Harper and I excused ourselves and headed home for the night.

I got home and headed up for a shower then down to the kitchen. I grabbed a beer out the refrigerator and a frozen dinner out the freezer and put it in the microwave. Once it was done, I headed into the living room and turned on the TV to find a movie to watch before I headed up to bed.

I watched a horror movie, one of my favorite genres. Then I headed upstairs to bed. I was hoping that once my head hit the pillow I would fall right to sleep, but no such luck. I tossed and turned for hours worried about Emma. When I finally fell asleep, the alarm went off.

That woman is special. I know that. I have he never felt the way I feel about her about anyone else. I have got to make sure she is safe and catch this asshole who is using her to get to that art collection at the Clark estate. Then I can tell her how I feel and hope that this Wayne character didn’t damage her so much that she won’t give me a chance. I know how hard it will be for her to trust a man again. She went from a violent SOB to a robber. She has to be questioning her judgement when it comes to men, but if given the chance I will show her what a real man is.

CHAPTERNINE

Emma

I feel so bad when I get up the next morning. I hate what I have brought into Grayson and Ava’s lives. I am so ashamed. I finally pull myself together and head out to the estate watching in my rear-view mirror as Bryan and the other guard he has with him tail me to work.
