“True. But she’s with one now and related to one. How’s that going to work out?”

“Charli!” I hiss.

“Relax, Liv. I’m only looking out for you. For all we know, she’s using you to plot her revenge on them.”

“I’m not.”

“I hope for your sake that’s true.” Charli flashes her a feral grin, and for a second, I think Tally might bolt.

But she sits back in her chair and smirks. “I like you.”

“Yeah, well the jury is still out on you.” Charli picks up her menu like she didn’t just issue Tally a veiled warning. What’s good?” she asks.

“Everything,” Abigail answers.

“Sorry about her,” I whisper to Tally.

“It’s fine. I get it. I’ve always been a bitch to you.”

“I wasn’t exactly friendly in return.”

“I don’t agree with a lot of what the Heirs get away with, that will never change. But I am glad we got to know each other, Liv. I need you to know that.”

“I do. Just promise me you won’t go after them. It’ll make things hella awkward between us if you go to war with them.”

“I’m Head Girl, people expect me to—”

“Tally, if you go after them, it won’t end well.”

“Fine.” She huffs, giving her menu her full attention.

“I’ve never seen so many types of cake,” Charli says. “How the hell am I supposed to choose?”

“The red velvet is amazing. The carrot cake, and raspberry and coconut are up there too. Then you’ve got the coffee and walnut, funfetti, and lemon cake. All solid options.”

Charli gawks at Tally like she’s grown a second head.

“What?” Tally shrugs. “I like cake.”

My phone vibrates and I dig it out of my pocket, smiling at the sight of Reese’s name.

“Oh God,” Charli groans. “She has that look.”

“No, I don’t.”

“Hate to break it to you, Liv,” Tally sniggers. “But you do.”

“You so do,” Abigail adds.

Reese: Just got done with practise. Heading back to the Chapel for some boys’ time. See you later?

Olivia: Yeah, okay. I’m at Dessert Island with the girls.

Reese: Have some cake for me. Better yet, get a slice to go and we can have some fun with it later.

Olivia: Reese!

My cheeks heat as I shield my screen from prying eyes.
