How can we ever go back to hiding this now we’ve crossed this line?

The answer is, we can’t. I don’t want to. But it’s not that simple, either.

Our parents. Oak. Abigail. There are so many obstacles in our way, but he said it. Reese said we’re meant to be, and I want so desperately to believe him.

“Get extra chips,” he calls from the bathroom. “And see if they have onion rings.”

“Anything else?” I chuckle.

“Whatever you want.”

My lip quirks as I think about what I want, because it doesn’t include anything on the menu.

After ordering Reese a ridiculous amount of food, I try to turn on my phone, only to discover the battery is dead.

Oak is probably going out of his mind, but I can’t find it in myself to care. Not today. Not after everything that’s happened.

“Hmm, now there’s a sight for sore eyes.” The heat in Reese’s voice sends shivers through me. I glance over my shoulder at him and give him a sultry look.

“I ordered you one of almost everything.”

He stalks toward me, leaning down and sliding his hands up my ankles, and he tugs me sharply to the end of the bed. His knees hit the floor and he lifts both of my legs over his shoulders. “Change of plans,” he says. “There’s only one thing I’m hungry for right now.”

“Oh yeah?” I sass, swallowing the moan caught in my throat as his lips find the soft flesh along my inner thigh.

“Yeah, sweet cheeks. You.”

“You sure you don’t want to drive back together?” Reese asks me as we walk to our cars.

“It seems silly to leave one car here when we’ll only have to come back for it.”

“Yeah, I know.” He buries his face in the crook of my neck. “But I’m not sure I can let you go.”

“You’re just sad there’s no chance of a car journey blowie.” I arch a brow and he explodes with laughter.

“I’ve created a monster.”

“And she bites too.” I snap my teeth together, leaning up to kiss him. “Thank you for last night. It was…” Amazing.

“I think I should be thanking you.”

“What happens now?” My stomach sinks.

“We’ll go back to Saints Cross and deal with Oak, and then figure out how to deal with my mum and Abigail.”

“Promise?” I hate how vulnerable I sound, but I need to know that he’s in this thing with me.

“I promise.” Reese grips the back of my neck and drops a kiss on my head. “I’ll meet you back at the house, okay?”

I nod, climbing into my car and waiting for him to do the same.

Connecting my phone to the in-car charger, I leave it to power up and turn on the engine. My car rumbles to life, the radio blasting out a sad song about heartbreak and regrets.

Just what I don’t want to hear.

Switching the station, I pull out of the car park and pass Reese. His gaze lingers on me as he follows.
