“They are?” A strange sensation goes through me. I don’t like it. “I don’t want him here. I can’t…”
“Shh. It’s okay, Liv.” Abigail guides me to my bed and we sit.
“Will somebody please tell me what the hell is going on?”
“Reese didn’t send that email,” she blurts.
“He… he didn’t?”
I think deep down, I knew it wasn’t him. But after everything we’ve been through, I couldn’t trust him fully not to do something so malicious. But I’m not sure it changes anything. Not after learning he planned to hurt me all along.
“No,” Tally adds. “It was Darcie Porter.”
“What?” I spit.
Tally nods, disapproval thinning her lips. “I overheard her bragging to her friends about it after school, outside the common room. She stole the images off Reese’s phone and tricked one of the media nerds into showing her how to hack the system, probably promised to get on her knees for him. Stupid slut.”
“Does she know you heard her?” Anger floods my chest.
Darcie.
Darcie did this.
All because she’s a jealous, petty bitch.
“No, she has no idea. She obviously assumed no one else was around, but I stay late sometimes. I told Abigail, and she suggested we go straight to the Heirs.”
“But she sent it from Reese’s email. Without proof, it’s her word against yours.”
Tally’s eyes light up with delight. “That’s why I recorded their conversation.”
“Shit, you didn’t?”
“Oh, I did. Darcie Porter thinks she can get away with anything just because her daddy is the headteacher, and I’m sick of it.”
“Did you play the recording to my brother and the Heirs?”
She nods. “They already have a copy.”
“Why?”
“Excuse me?” Tally balks.
“Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate it, I do. But why help me and Reese? You despise the Heirs.”
“You can thank Abi for that. She seems to think that maybe I’m wrong about you.”
The two of them share a look that makes me frown.
“Well, either way, I’m grateful.”
“Your brother wanted to tell you, but we figured you’d probably appreciate hearing it from us first.”
“You would be right.”
I’m not ready to face him or Reese yet.
Especially Reese.
