“We?”

“I don’t remember her wronging you.” I point out.

“Fuck that. She came after you and Re—” He stops himself, and my chest tightens at his slip. “She came after you, which means she came after us. You know we can’t let that fly.”

“I don’t want you to.” Darcie deserves to be taught a lesson. But I don’t want them to do anything stupid or reckless.

“I want to decide her punishment,” I add.

“Consider it done.” Elliot nods.

“Not tonight, though. I need some time to figure things out.”

“On that note, we should probably go,” Tally says.

“Actually, I was wondering if you and Abi want to stay and hang out?”

“What about me?” Oak has the audacity to look offended.

“Sorry, Brother. It’s girls’ night.”

“Girls’ night? You’re seriously going to send me away after—”

“You’re a big boy. I’m sure you can handle it. Besides, you and Reese probably need to work out your differences… without beating the shit out of each other.”

“He deserves everything he gets.”

“Maybe,” I whisper.

Silence crackles between us and then Oak lets out a heavy sigh. His eyes flick to Abigail and back to me. “Since you’re throwing me out, walk me down?”

“I’ll be back,” I say to the girls. “Make yourself at home.”

We walk down the hall before Oak grabs me and pulls me close. “I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but he’s really cut up about this, Liv. And don’t get me wrong, I’m so fucking mad at him for touching you. But he’s one of us.”

“I know.”

“You two need to talk.”

“I can’t, Oak.”

“He’s a mess. I’ve never seen him like this. Ever.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say. He’s promised to Abi. I never should have—”

“I’m not talking about Abigail right now. I’m talking about you. What doyouwant, Liv?”

“I… I don’t know.”

I’d wanted Reese. But it wasn’t real. Every secret touch and stolen kiss… it was all a lie. A game.

“I know I can be an overbearing arse sometimes, but it’s only because I care about you. And I don’t want you to settle for less than you deserve.”

“I know.”

“I love you, Liv.” Oak pulls me into his arms. “Nothing you’ve done or do will ever change that. And although I’m not sorry I beat Whitfield’s arse, I promise to try not to do it again.”

“Okay, who are you and what have you done with my brother?” I laugh, but it comes out strangled.
