“I… I don’t know.”

“Well, whatever it is, you need to make it good. That bitch has had it coming long enough.”

“Actually, I might have an idea,” Abigail chimes, and we both look at her.

“You do?” My brows furrowed.

“Yeah. It’s a little bit crazy, and we’d probably need the Heirs’ help, but it’ll send a message for sure.”

I glance at Tally and she nods.

“Okay.” I meet Abigail’s wary gaze. “Tell us your idea.”

REESE

“Home sweet home,” I mutter as I follow Oak and Theo through the huge doors of the Chapel.

I didn’t want to come back here. But equally, I didn’t really want to go back to The Manor either.

I wanted to be at… home.

Home.

Not a name I thought I’d ever give to the Beckworths’ house. Or at least, not recently.

But that’s what it is. And not because of the house, or the fact that my mum lives there.

It’s all because of her.

The girl who’s wormed her way beneath the armour I wear 24/7 and set up camp in my heart.

Oak says nothing, just marches toward the kitchen with his shoulders pulled tight and rips the fridge open, immediately reaching inside for something.

“You good?” Elliot asks as he steps around me.

“Uh… yeah. Could you two give us a few minutes?” I ask, although hesitantly.

Oak hasn’t said a word to me since Elliot called him and demanded he meet us at his dad’s house so he could hear what Abigail and Tally had to say.

Hell, he hasn’t even looked at me.

He’s pointedly ignored and avoided me at all costs.

I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than him flying at me again and taking his anger out on me with his fists.

Elliot glances over his shoulder as Oak knocks the top of his beer off and lifts it to his lips.

“Sure. Just shout if you need us.”

“I won’t,” I confirm. “If he wants to kill me, he can have at it. I know I fucked up, that I deserve it.”

“And that’s exactly why he won’t. Just talk to him, yeah. And be honest. No matter how hard that is.”

“I’ll see what I can do.”

After grabbing beers for both him and Theo, the two of them disappear up the stairs, leaving me alone with my former best friend and the reason my face is still completely fucked up.
