“We need to talk,” I say.
He yanks the door open and steps aside, and I gently nudge the girls forward.
“I guess it’s true what they say.”
“And what is it they say, Tally Darlington?” Elliot asks.
“You really are a bunch of little rich boys playing at being kings.” Her eyes drink in the Chapel.
“Watch it, Miss Perfect.”
“Tally.” I shake my head. The last thing we need right now is them going at it.
“Sorry, it’s just… a lot.”
“Jealous, Prim?” Oak appears, leaning against the door frame.
She scoffs, otherwise ignoring him.
“Where’s Re—”
“Hi.”
My heart tumbles at the sight of him. The bruises along his cheekbone and jaw are fading, but he’s still a mess. I want to go to him, to make sure he’s okay. But I don’t.
I can’t.
Because he hurt me in ways I’m not sure I’ll ever recover from.
And his defeated expression tells me he knows that.
“How are you?” he asks, taking a step forward. His presence, the havoc he wreaks on my insides, sucks the air from the room.
“I’m fine.” I glance away and walk over to the sofa. Abigail sits beside me, shoulder to shoulder, an offer of support. I give her an appreciative smile.
“I… we wanted to talk to you about Darcie.”
“What’s this?” Theo strolls into the room, drawing up short when he spots the three of us.
“The girls want to talk to us about Darcie,” Elliot parrots as the three of them take a chair each. Reese stays standing, his eyes fixed on my face.
“I want you to let us handle it.”
“It?” Elliot’s eyes narrow.
“Retribution,” I clarify.
“And what do you have in mind?”
“Elliot, man, come on. We should—” Theo starts, but Elliot cuts him with a hard look.
“Let’s hear it, Liv.”
“Abigail found out some interesting things about Darcie. Something we can use to knock her off her pedestal at All Hallows’.”
“Care to tell us what it is you have?” Elliot asks Abigail, and she glances at me.
“You have to trust us,” I say. “But rest assured it’ll ruin her reputation and land her in a whole heap of trouble with her father.”
