“Interesting.”

“Eaton, come on. We have the—”

“Darcie went after Olivia.” Elliot gives me a small nod, cutting Theo off. “Vengeance should be hers.” He relaxes back against the sofa, oozing arrogance and malice. “You’re sure it’ll have the desired effect?”

“It’ll ruin her,” Tally says with a smug smile.

“And you want that, Liv? Because once you walk this road, there’s no going back.”

“I know,” I say. “But I’ve made my decision.”

Maybe it makes me as bad as her, but Darcie Porter deserves everything coming to her.

“Olivia, wait,” Reese calls after me as I follow the girls back to Tally’s car.

“What do you want?”

“Can we talk?”

“I have nothing to say to you.” My heart clinches.

“I deserve that. But it doesn’t change the fact that I have plenty to say to you.”

“I-I can’t do this, Reese. I’m sorry.”

“Liv, wait.” He grabs my arm and a bolt of electricity goes through at his touch. “Please, hear me out and then we can—”

“Olivia, are you coming?” Tally calls.

Reese mutters something about, ‘interfering bitch’ under his breath but releases my arm.

“You should go,” he says.

Without so much as a word, I force myself to walk away from him. I want to scream at him, to hurt him the way he’s hurt me, but I’m too emotionally drained to even reply.

I’ve almost reached Tally’s car when his voice stops me. “Liv?”

I glance back, immediately regretting it. Because his expression is guttered, shame and guilt shining in his eyes.

“It was real,” he chokes out. “I know I fucked up, but I need you to know that it was real.”

A sad smile tugs at my lips. “I wish I could believe you.”

I slip into Tally’s back seat and belt up.

“Are you okay?” Abigail asks me.

“No.”

I can’t help but look back at Reese, standing there, watching me watch him. He talks a good talk, almost had me believing him. But how can I trust anything he says now?

“I know what you need,” Tally adds. “Some of Dessert Island’s red velvet cake. It always makes me feel better.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“Do what?” she asks, finding my gaze in the rear-view mirror.
