I knew she was going to be a bitch even before we exchanged a word. "Kimberly, hm? Charming."

"That's right," he replies. "Why the interest? You aren’t jealous, I hope."

I laugh loud and clear, making it obvious that I consider his suggestion preposterous. "Why would I be jealous of your girlfriend?"

He ignores the question. “Come in, princess.”

I reluctantly cross the threshold, painfully aware that this is my second Friday with him.

What does he have up his sleeve this time?

ChapterFifty-Eight

"Nice dress."

I look down, though I haven’t forgotten what I’m wearing in the last couple of hours.

Dresses aren’t really my style. They’re hard to move in unencumbered. Back when I used to live in town, I was cycling everywhere. Shorts in the summer and jeans when the weather was cooler were simply a lot more practical. But now, my wardrobe is filled with a lot of stuff I wouldn’t have chosen myself—courtesy of his grandmother. All of it suits me, and to my surprise, I tend to like Valentina’s choice of clothing. It makes me look more mature and stylish—and certainly richer—but still like myself.

This short skater dress is pale pink, with a dark brown tribal print all over it. I paired it with ankle boots and knee-high socks. The weather might be warm in October in most of California, but up here in the hills, it can dip as low as the sixties, especially when we get some wind like today, so I threw on the red leather jacket that’s quickly becoming a signature piece. The overall ensemble is cute.

“Let me help you out of that.” Camden helps me shrug off the jacket I would have preferred to keep.

His hand feels hot against the skin of my arms. I try to ignore how I tremble at the innocent touch.

“I see you didn’t do as you were told,” he notes lightly, his gaze fixed on my shoulders and noticing the strap of my pink bra underneath.

“You live five miles away from the dorm, and it’s windy out.” I shrug. “I wasn’t about to flash everyone as I walked here.”

“That’s a good excuse for your panties—though you could have removed them in the driveway. Why the bra? It’s not like you need it.”

I flush in irritation at the reminder that my breasts aren’t anything like Skylar’s, or Kimberly’s for that matter.

“You like pushing boundaries, don’t you? Even though you know it’ll get you punished.”

“Should I remove them now, then?” I question, exasperated.

“I think not. Keep your precious modesty. See if it gets you anywhere.” Camden snickers, tilting his head as he walks toward the lounge. He’s civil and charming, but I don’t miss the threatening undertone. “Come on in, princess.”

I trail after him, apprehension and annoyance warring inside me. I don’t know the details of what he’s going to do to me today, but I have no doubt it’s going to be just as filthy and depraved as last time.

In the lounge, I find a new piece of furniture—I would have noticed it if it had been there that Sunday night. Shaped like a wave, the lounge chair is the only thing that’s not beige in the entire place: it’s bright purple instead.

“Finally putting a bit of color in this place?”

“Hm? Oh, that was already in the house—upstairs,” he clarifies. “Sit. See how you like it. What would you like to drink? Eat?”

I shake my head. “I just had breakfast.”

Camden disappears around the corner, heading to the kitchen, and comes back with a tray of refreshments all the same.

The chair’s lower than most sofas, and comfortable, though it’s clearly made for reclining.I lie back, finding the perfect position for the nap I desperately need after my bout of insomnia. Though I don’t expect Camden intends to watch me sleep all day.

“It suits you,” Camden tells me.

My eyebrows frown in confusion. What suits me, the furniture?

“Now hands over your head, and spread your legs.”
