“Please what, princess?” he quietly laughs. “Do you want me to stop the film?”

Who cares about the fucking film!“Please let me come.”

Camden tilts his head. “Do you deserve to come, Morgan?”

Objectively, the answer is no. I know it. I knew it when I told him he couldn’t boss me around yet at midnight last week. I certainly knew it when I delighted in putting on underwear after he told me not to. He’s in charge of my orgasms right now, and nothing I’ve done recently would convince him to please me.

“I will. I’ll do anything you want,” I promise eagerly.

“Will you now?” Camden’s golden eyes dance with amusement.

I nod three times in a row. “Please.”

“See, I don’t think you will. I think that as soon as I give you what you want, you’ll act like a little brat again. It’s in your nature. You’re too used to your independence. No one’s ever taken care of you, or told you what to do, and you don’t think I should either.”

I stare at him speechlessly.

If someone had asked me why I was sassing Camden, I would have told them he deserved it. Having had things spelled out for me, I can’t fault his logic. Iamindependent. I’ve paid bills and taken care of myself for basically ever. My parents have only ever done the barest minimum where I’m concerned. Then all of a sudden, he comes and buys me things, takes care of my tuition, my debt, my fucking wardrobe. Who does he think he is?

He's nailed the source of my issue with him, though I didn’t even know that was it.

“I’m going to undo your restraints, and you’ll have two choices. You can keep being a brat, and see where that gets you. Or you can take your punishments for ignoring me for two weeks, for being a bitch last Thursday, and for wearing fucking panties today. Afterwards, I’ll reward you.”

I balk at the idea of being punished for anything at all. Who does he think he is? But telling him that isn’t likely to go in my favor, so I just haggle over the details.

“I didn’t ignore you,” I hedge. That’s only point I can argue about. Iwasa bitch last Thursday, and Ididwillfully ignore his simple directive. He and I both know I ran in the opposite direction as soon as I saw him. But avoiding him isn’t the same thing as ignoring him. “We just don’t navigate the same circles.”

“You don’t navigate any circle, princess.”

He’s right, I haven’t made any friends at Rothford U. I go to class and head back to my dorm, or to the library. I saw Damian a couple of times, but he’s busy, and he was always Erica’s friend more than mine anyway. We don’t hang out. “You didn’t say anything to me either,” I point out.

“And why is that, do you think?” Camden asks, seeming thoroughly amused.

I shrug helplessly. How am I to know what runs through his mind?

“I get you every Friday, Morgan—whether you like it or not.” He runs his fingers along my skin slowly, taking his time with my breasts, my stomach.

I pretend I don’t feel it. I pretend I’m not desperate for more.

“I won’t force my company on you during the week, princess.”

That’s…unexpectedly thoughtful of him?

“Still, when I made that decision, I didn’t realize you would run the other way at the sight of me.”

“I didn’t think you cared,” I say honestly. “You have tons of friends around you all the time.”

“How are any of my friends relevant to this discussion?”

I shrug. “Are you saying if I came right up to you when you’re hanging out with them, you’d acknowledge my existence?”

As soon as the words are out of my mouth, I realize that I put my finger right into the heart of the issue I’ve had with him since the start of the semester. The true reason why I kept my distances. I fully expected him to look at me like I’m gum under his shoes if I walked up to him in public—especially after he so easily replaced me last week.

I didn’t want to find out whether I was right, so I just stayed away.

Pathetic.

More than pathetic, it’s actually worrying, because it reveals a level of concern I hadn’t realized I felt. Why should I care if he uses me one day and discards me the next? That’s what I agreed to when we made our deal. He fixed my life with an unholy amount of money, and I became his toy in exchange.
