Kim shrugs. “They have some lying around for new pledges. If you’d like one, you can have it now.”

I hesitate. “Cam’s getting my clothes.”

She is unimpressed. “Everyone has already seen you naked, Morgan. The jeweler is here for another few minutes. If you don’t come now, you can pick it up the next time you’re in town—or they’ll send it to Thorn Falls, I don’t know.”

By the sound of it, she doesn't care either.

It seems silly to wait or make them send things,if it's available now. Besides, I got a second wind thanks to Kim.

I get out of the shower and pull on a robe, gesturing for her to lead the way.

I try to memorize the path so I can find my way back after—I doubt she’ll escort me further than she has to. At least Camden will find me if I get lost.

We’re passing a fire door when suddenly, without warning, Kim slams me against it. “What the—?”

I can’t even finish the sentence before she opens the door and shoves me outside, in the cool New York air.

“Good thing you like taking dicks, Morgan," she snickers. "I have a feeling you’ll get a few more tonight.”

She grins wickedly before closing the doors as I rush to get back inside, locking me out in the hallway. I hit the metal door in frustration. “Let me in!”

I only realize I’m not alone in the hallway when I head a throaty laugh.

I turn to face a man who seems vaguely familiar to me, though I can’t place him. Thin and dark haired, he’s severely scarred, and considering the angry red skin stretching his face, at least some of them are recent.

“Hello again, Morgan.”

Where have I seen him?

“Stay away,” I croak, causing him to laugh again.

“There’s no one to save you today. Just you and me.”

It hit me then. This is the guy who hit me then kicked my stomach in LA.

Shit, shit, shit.

How does he know Kim? Because he knows her. She led me right to him. They must have connected over their hatred for me.

I didn’t get a good look at his face back then; I hadn’t noticed the scars.

I look behind his shoulder to the end of the alley. I have to get past him somehow. The other side is a dead end.

“We’re going to have so much fun, you and I,” he promises darkly.

I don’t even think. I kick my foot up, aiming right between his legs. He groans when I make contact, but it only seems to piss him off.

“Pain doesn’t have the effect it used to, these days,” he tells me as he reaches for my neck. “You can thank your boyfriend for that.”

“Camden?” I ask.

But the next moment, he presses his free hand to my mouth and nose, holding a cloth with a strange, sweet smell. I have the presence of mind to yell and thrash and make as much of a fuss as I can, screaming for help from someone—anyone.

But it’s too late. I’m out.

ChapterSeventy-Five

The first thing I notice when I come to is the disgusting smell around me. It's more potent than any stench I can think of: a mixture of piss and vomit, maybe worse.
