Trent turns toward the direction I'm looking at, and waves cheerfully. "Hey! Camden." He looks between him and I. "Morgan, this is Camden—a new acquaintance. Camden, my girlfriend Morgan."

Someone shoot me now.

I watch him walk to us, sporting his most Machiavellian smirk. "No way. Morgan Brown, your girlfriend? Woah, you weren't kidding when you said you struck gold, Dawson." He sits on the opposite side of me in the booth.

"You two know each other?" Trent marvels.

"Oh yeah, we go way back. My best friend is married to hers. We were best man and bridesmaid, in fact."

"Oh yeah?" He turns to me, eyebrows creased. "You never spoke about him."

"Because contrary to his belief, Camden just isn't that significant in my life."

"Ouch." He grins, looking at Trent. "She turned me down numerous times. You'll have to tell me how you got her to date you."

Now Trent is visibly uncomfortable, twitching on his seat like prey, while Camden looks completely relaxed, friendly even. "Nothing special. I guess we just clicked."

Camden turns his attention to me. "You clicked, huh?"

God, why is he doing this to me? "He isn't a psycho. That considerably increases the odds of me saying yes to a guy."

He laughs easily, just asAdivainterrupts the pissing contestwith a bright, "Hey! Can I get you anything?"

I could kiss her right now.I slap my laptop shut and get to my feet. "Nothing for me, Adi—I'm going back to work."

"I'll have a black coffee and a slice of pie," Camden orders.

"Any preference?"

"Anything, but can you put a cherry on top, please? I love sucking on those sweet cherries."

I'm going to murder him.

Adiva giggles. "Coming right up. And for you?"

Poor Trent's downright confused, and defensive. "Err—just a vanilla latte to go."

"Vanilla latte?" Camden echoes. "Nice."

"A lot nicer than black coffee," I mutter on my way to the back.

Who even drinks that? People who hate their taste buds, that's who.

I'm glad these two guys aren't in my section. They sit together for a couple of minutes, during which Camden openly ogles me and Trent keeps looking between us.

Shit, shit, shit. Now when I drop him, he'll think it's because I decided to fuck around with Camden.Thank you, dickhead, for making my life more difficult than it needs to be. Again.

I'm glad Trent is gone by the time Camden's pie gets to him, because he makes a show out of licking the candied cherry, moaning in delight as he sucks at it. It's downright lewd.

He leaves Adiva a fifty-buck tip, which makes me grumble. I need to seat him in my section next time. Hard as it to admit, I need the money.

Actually, what I need is fifty thousand dollars, and I know he has it. He would give it to me if I asked. I know what he'd want in exchange.I just can't bring myself to fold to him, to ask for his help, or to sell myself. I have too much pride for that.

When I check my phone during a quiet time, I’m not surprised to find a text from Trent.

Trent: So, that was a little weird. Did you and Hunt used to date?

Ugh. I grunt at the phone as I type a no, followed by at least five exclamation points.
