"Weare not going anywhere, Rom. You have an appointment with your father, remember?" He groans at the reminder, and curses under his breath.

Leaving him to his family drama, I jump into my car—the faster one—and fly down the streets until I reach the highway.

I glance at my screen when it beeps, but it’s only a message from Rhys—a reminder about our plans. I ignore it, increasingly frustrated.

Why isn't she calling me? Her bank should have refused the loan by now. She knows she's screwed without help.Who is she going to appeal to? If it’s Trent, I’ll likely be digging a shallow grave before the week is out. I’ve never been this unhinged.

My phone beeps again, signaling a call this time. I accept it on speaker.

"Talk to me, Roy."

If he's calling, it's about Morgan. My father and other people in the club employ him for an array of reasons, but for me, he's just looking into her.

"Don't freak."

No words have ever made anyone more likely to freak. "Spell it out right now."

"She's at the hospital."

My car swerves as I momentarily lose control of the vehicle. I catch the wheel in time not to cause any damage to myself or anyone nearby by pure chance. "What?"

"I look into her once a day as you instructed. I saw her message her boss that she couldn't go to work for the rest of the week, so I looked into it. A couple of guys accosted her and one of her roommates as they walked into their building. They're at the ER, but haven't been checked in yet."

"Which hospital?"

He gives me the address, and I hang up on him before thinking to tell him to keep checking for news. He's smart enough to do that even without my say-so anyway.

I call my father instead.

"Yes?"

"I need you to get in touch with anyone you know atHuntington right now. My girlfriend's hurt, and she's waiting in the ER."

"You have a girlfriend?"

Not exactly, but I will soon enough. Rather than getting into it with him, I say,"Please."

My father's not used to hearing that word from me.

He pauses before answering."Of course. I'm close by. I'll stop by to ensure things run smoothly. Her name?"

Ordinarily, I wouldn't tell him. I wouldn't give him this much knowledge, this much potential power over me. But he has contacts in the medical field, and I'm an hour away from LA right now.

"Morgan Brown."

"Morgan Brown?" Adrian sighs on the other end of the line. "Couldn't you have chosen someone who hasn't made an enemy of half the board, Camden?"

I really couldn't have.

ChapterThirty-Four

I have never felt worse, and my broken ribs have nothing to do with it.

I expected him to reach out again after I sent the money so we could negotiate a deal, a timeline, I don't know, a payment plan. I didn't expect three creeps to ambush me as I came back home. I certainly didn't expect Toni to turn into a freaking ninja and take them on.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

"It's not my first broken bone," Toni assures me casually, like her wrist isn't all messed up.
