Page 46 of Her Wild Ride

Seeing her like this is pure pleasure. There’s an intimacy between us that I’ve never felt before.

So right.

So perfect.

She has no idea, but I’ve never been so vulnerable and open with another person. Never wanted to. It’s always been Bexley.

“Johnny,” she breathes my name and I know she’s on the edge.

I take her lips in mine. Swallowing her moans does it for me. I dig my fingers in her hips, driving in her harder and faster, hurtling to the point of no return.

“Johnny—” she cries out at the same time I growl her name crushing into my own release.

BEXLEY

––––––––

WE DECIDE TO spendthe night under the stars, tangled up beside a roaring campfire.

My fingers glide over his bare chest where the flames flicker dancing patterns. The only part of our bodies not wrapped in the camping blanket. I was surprised the amount of supplies he pulled out of his saddle bags.

My head nuzzles perfectly in the nook of his arm. Perfect, like this entire evening has been. Perfect, the way we fit together. The opposite of risk and thrill taking.

I mentally shove away the spark of hope thinking maybe this could be more than a weekend. That he might stick around and buy that house. That he might put down the roots he says he wants. I shove all of the silly teenage thoughts to the deepest part of me. I remind myself he will leave. He will climb on his bike and ride off into the sunset. If I want to enjoy him, I have to accept a day or two is all I have, all I want.

“I didn’t know sex could be that good.”

His arm tightens around my shoulder. “Me either. It was perfect.” He kisses the top of my head.

Perfect.

What is with that word?

“Why Emerald?” I need a change of topic.

“What do you mean?”

“Why’d you name your motorcycle Emerald?”

He’a quiet for a second and when he speaks, his words sound strained. “I named her after the most beautiful emerald eyes I’ve ever seen.”

My heart stops beating for a second. Jealousy drives through me, rocky and painful and unexpected. I didn’t know my chest could constrict the way it does now. No emotions, my ass. No feelings beyond adventurous sex on the whim. I’m only lying to myself.

I tilt my head to look at him. He stares at the star-filled sky blanketing us.

“Did it end that bad?”

“It didn’t even have a chance to begin.” He slants his head to look at me. His finger gently tucks a piece of my hair behind my ear. The gesture leaves a trail of warmth on my skin. “Bex, they were your eyes.”

My insides warm against my protests not to. I can’t explain the feeling rushing through me. I don’t want to. Yet, hearing I wasn’t just a random lay for him invokes emotions I don’t understand. Warm, wonderful, and soothing emotions.

“I named Emerald after you and I took a part of you with me ten years ago.”

My eyes skitter down to where my hand rests on his chest. I don’t know what to do with his admission. I’m not even sure what his admission is.

“You said you didn’t even see me more than your little sister’s friend until the night at eh lighthouse.”
