He props himself above me, forcing me to meet his gorgeous eyes. “I didn’t, but I saw you, Bex. You were one of the only friends I had, besides my brothers. But Rock and Blue were always tight and Alyx bounced somewhere between them and me. It was Billie, and me, and you. So I sawyou. It just took me longer to catch up to your physical side.”

“I can’t tell if that’s a compliment.”

He growls deep in his chest. “It’s a compliment.”

“You might have to prove it to me.”

“You don’t have to ask me twice.” He devours my mouth. Scorching hot and leaving me wanting more when he lifts his head. “But I heard you, Bex. I know what this is.” His hand strokes my cheek. “But don’t think for a second you’re just an adventure I want to conquer. You mean more than that to me. You always have. I don’t want you to be confused, like last time, about what I’m feeling for you. You don’t get to walk away angry this time.”

“I didn’t plan on it.”

“Walking away? Or angry?”

I’m not exactly sure.

“Less talking. More kissing.”

Chatper Eleven

JOHNNY

––––––––

THE LAST TWO days arebustling. The sexual tension sizzles between me and Bexley. I want to drag her into the trailer ever second of the day and ravish her. But we’re too busy to sneak away.

Saturday night we participate in the Halloween Hunt and enjoy s’mores around the campfire. After she hints at spending another night under the stars, I drive to another secluded spot and pitch a tent for the night. I’ve spent a lot of nights outside and I’ve never enjoyed one like I do sharing it with her.

When Sunday morning rolls around, I’m disappointed the weekend is coming to an end. I only hope we continue whatever it is Bexley and I are doing. I’d like to take her on a proper date. Maybe supper at Tradewinds, followed by a walk on the beach. I know I told her I understand what this weekend is, but I’m hoping the last two days changes how she feels about it. Maybe she’ll give us a chance. One long overdue and one we deserve.

“Are we opening today or are we just going to stand around and stare into nowhere land?” my dad barks, rolling up a side panel of the tent.

We open at eleven today. I dropped Bexley off at home because she wanted to change into her Halloween costume for the day. My leather jacket is costume enough for me.

I swallow the last mouthful of coffee before I help my dad roll up the opposite side of the panel.

“I didn’t see you come home last night.” My old man pours liquid from his flask into my coffee mug.
