Page 48 of Her Wild Ride

“I camped out.”

“Alone?” He sips his drink like he’s drinking coffee. I don’t know who he thinks he’s fooling.

“Nope.” I roll up and fasten the next panel on my own.

“Anyone I know?” He sits on a chain link chair.

I glance over my shoulder. “You going to try to kick my ass if I say yes?”

“Try to?” He arches an eyebrow.

“You’re an old man now and I’m the muscles.” I flex my biceps when I reach to plug in the lights along the ceiling.

My father doesn’t even move from his perch. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used of his chilled demeanour.

“You better treat her right.”

I cross the tent and lean on the table across from him. “I plan on it. Every day I’m alive.” I kick a small rock under the table. “If she’ll let me.”

“What the hell does that mean? Did you screw it up already?”

“I didn’t screw anything up.”

“You must’ve if she’s already kicked you to the curb.”

“She hasn’t kicked me to the curb.”

My dad make a clicking sound at the same time he makes a kicking motion with his foot.

“She didn’t kick me to the damn curb.”

“I don’t see her here.”

“She thinks I’m going to leave again,” I growl. “While I’m in this one-hundred percent, she’s afraid I’m going to take off and leave her heartbroken and alone.

He sits back and cradles his mug. “I see.”

“That’s it?”

“Are you?”

“Am I want?”

“Going to break her heart?” His dark stare would scare a criminal straight.

“No, and I didn’t mean to hurt her the first time. All I knew was I had fallen in love with her and if I didn’t get out of Cinnamon Bay, I never would have. I would’ve stayed for her. But we all know I wasn’t in the right place to stay. I would’ve really hurt her if I’d stayed.”

He sits quiet for a few long minutes. Crowds are beginning to trickle in.

He groans as he rises to his feet. “I’ve always thought of her as one of my own.” He clamps his strong hand on my shoulder. “A ring on her finger would seal the deal.” His nails dig through the material and into my flesh. “Just don’t fuck it up.” He slaps my face before crossing the tent to assist a customer.

I guess that’s as close to approval I’m going to get from my dad. And I’m grateful. The old man could’ve made my decision to date Bexley a helluva a difficult one, but he’s got my back. He might not be able to say it, but my father trusts me, or else he wouldn’t let me anywhere near her.

I glance down the row and catch sight of Bexley. I have to double look.

Hot damn, she’s sexy and dangerous all rolled into one. Leather pants, off-the-shoulder black shirt, stilettos, and a leather jacket. My blood instantly boils. She sashay’s my direction in high black stilettos. My heart picks up speed. My crotch tightens.

Waiting until tonight to be able to touch and kiss her is way too fucking long. I want to be able to hold her hand, wrap my arm around shoulder, or kiss her whenever I damn well feel like it. Hands off in public doesn’t sit well with me.
