Chapter Three

JOHNNY

––––––––

“WHOA! FUCK, DAD.” Mydad slams my back into the side of the shop’s garage. The metal siding vibrates through my body. It’s been a while since I’ve had a go with my old man. It just so happens now I’m a grown-ass man, and I’m not afraid to whip him back.

His fisted hands dig into my throat. “What did you do to Bexley, you little shit.”

I hold my hands in the air. I’ll try to make peace first. I know the old man only cares. He just has a rough way of showing it.

“I told you what I did. I plucked her up and tossed her in the shower.”

My brothers wander out of the shop to see what the commotion is about.

“That ain’t what I’m referring to.”

“Old man, tell me what you’re referring to, and I’ll give you a straight answer.” I have a gut feeling it has something to do with the night I spent with Bexley at the lighthouse.

“Otto!” Bexley runs down the walkway. “Stop! Put him down!”

I smirk. “I can take care of myself, sweetheart.”

She doesn’t listen and wedges her way between my dad and me. “That didn’t come out the way I meant.”

My dad still holds a solid handful of my shirt. “He didn’t break your heart?”

She tenses against my body.

A rumble of gasps circles us.

My dad waits for her answer.

I’m waiting for her damn answer.

“I think breaking my heart is a bit of a stretch. He more or less disappointed me when he left without saying goodbye.”

“He didn’t say goodbye to no one.” My dad’s fingers tighten around the material alongside his grouchy grumble.

“Fair enough.” Bexley slips away from us. “If you’re going to punch him for anything, punch him for that.”

My stare lands on her. “Thanks, Bex.”

She sticks her hands in the tight skinny pants. “It was a dick move.”

“I agree with her,” Alyx shouts. “Dick move.”

“Punch him,” Blue adds.

“Right in the nuts.” Rock frames his mouth, so his voice rumbles.
