“Oh shit, you got the worse end of the deal.”

He rolls his eyes. “Yeah, well, what did Blaire make you do?”

I can’t help but smirk. “Sex,” I tell him simply.

Conrad stops walking. “You’re shitting me?”

Shaking my head, I can’t help but smile. “Nope. My girl knows what she wants and I’m more than happy to give it to her.”

He storms off ahead of me to catch up with Emree. My guess is he is going to try and renegotiate their deal. Too bad for him I have a feeling she won’t be budging when it comes to anything related to fashion.

After taking the three flights of stairs, we wait in line behind a group of middle schoolers that Maddox is currently in a verbal brawl with. “Yeah, well, I’ll fuck your mom and make you call me daddy, you little shit.”

The kid, who only moments ago felt like the toughest guy on the slopes, stands there stunned, with his jaw hanging open. His friends around him try to cover their laughs.

Maddox puffs his chest out before bending down to meet the kid at eye level. “Now be a good little shit or daddy won’t get you any presents for Christmas.”

The group in front of us is called for their turn and the kid never once smiles the entire time he gets into the tube or when they push the tube down the slope. Even at the bottom, I can still see he is stunned silent. Our group is called next, and we wait for the lift to bring a tube back up.

“Did you really have to scar the poor kid?” Jules asks as she gets into the waiting tube.

“He told me I look good for a lesbian. How can I let that shit slide?” Maddox responds. “First, I’m pretty sure that’s some fucked-up homophobic bullshit and second, I look good no matter what. No need to bring lesbians into the mix.”

Jules rolls her eyes. “He’s a stupid kid.”

“Yeah, and now he was knocked down a few notches. We need to humble them young, Julesy.”

Once we’re all situated in our seats, the park worker goes over the basic instructions: don’t stand up, keep your limbs inside the tube, don’t try to spin said tube. He sounds bored out of his mind saying these in a robotic tone, but I guess I would be too if I had to do this all night.

After we all agree to not do any of the things on the list, he tells us to hold on tight to the rope handles on the sides and pushes us down the slope with his foot. From this angle, it looks much steeper than it did from the bottom. Blaire must realize that too because the moment we start heading down, she lets out an ear-splitting scream and holds it the entire twelve seconds until we reach the bottom.

My heart is racing as we slide straight ahead to another employee waiting to get us out of the tube and I can’t help but smile at the adrenaline rush. Beside me, Blaire is still gripping the handles and her eyes are wide as she stares ahead.

“Gray Eyes, you okay?”

She doesn’t move but shakes her head. As I stand, I laugh because her panicked look is adorable. Bending down, I pick her up and cradle her to my chest. After thanking the park employee, I follow our friends back toward the picnic tables.

Blaire clutches my neck. “That was terrifying.”

Her body shakes as my chest rumbles with a chuckle. “Is it safe to say there’s no couples skydiving in our future?”

Her eyes widen and I get my answer in that one look. “You must be crazy.”

“Only crazy about you, baby.”

“Even I have to admit that was lame.” She laughs and I’m glad the fear seems to be gone and she relaxes more in my arms.

We join our friends at the picnic table as Maddox goes on again about the middle schooler and contemplates following him home and finding his mom. With Blaire on my lap, I look around at our friend group.

Four months ago, I met this shy, timid, beautiful woman. Our lives collided in the strangest of ways and as weird as it sounds, I knew at that moment she was important. I didn’t get her name, didn’t speak a word to her, and she ran off at the sight of me, but it was as if my heart knew she was someone important.

Never have I believed in soulmates, but part of me can’t help but think like that when I look at the gorgeous woman in my lap. She has been a comfort and a support. Through the preparation for my testimony in the trial coming up, she has stood by my side at every meeting. She is there to rub my sore muscles after a difficult game or practice, and not once has she complained even when I know her hands must be sore. When I admitted I was struggling in our math class, she came right over with all her study tools, ready to prepare me for our final exam.

I couldn’t have asked for a better woman to love me and that I get to love. She made it effortless to fall madly in love with her and I smile knowing she’s mine.

As our friends laugh, Blaire looks over at me and catches me staring at her. “What are you thinking about?”

I smile. “You.”

Her eyebrow rises. “And what about me?”

“How much I love you.”

Her eyes soften and she melts into my chest. “I love you too.” We sit in comfortable silence as we watch our friends talking and laughing. “Thank you, Camden.”

“For what, baby?”

“For making it easy to trust you. For giving me everything I never knew I wanted. What I needed.”

With my arms wrapped around her waist, I pull her closer to me and rest my lips against her temple. “Never thank me for that, Blaire. I should be thanking you for giving me a chance to show you what being able to trust someone is like. Forever, Gray Eyes,” I promise her. “I’m here to love you forever.”
