“Annie.” There’s a strange, innocent note in Luke’s voice. “You should come.”

I glance at Liam, but his face is totally impassive, a neutral mask. These guys are my bosses and I’ve only been at SITL for a week. Having dinner with them is probably a little much. “Oh, I couldn’t possibly. I have, um—”

“I insist!”

Liam gives me another of his sideways looks. “Luke, the woman has a life. She could be busy.”

That’s nice. He knows I’m the opposite of busy, but he’s giving me an out.

Or maybe he doesn’t want me there. Maybe Lana’s another girl he’s seeing.

He sure knows a lot of ladies for someone who “doesn’t date.”

Did that sound jealous? Totally wasn’t. Obviously, my boss can socialize with whomever he wants.

“Annie? Are you busy?” Luke presses.

I scramble for words. “Well, no. But I—”

“Perfect. It’s decided, then. We’ll see you in forty-five minutes.”

He hangs up before I can respond.

“I can still take you home if you want,” Liam offers, staring straight ahead.

His sentence stirs something in me. WhatdoI want?

If I’m honest, I enjoyed eating Mexican food with Liam last night more than I’d like to admit. And tonight, I’m being given the opportunity to eat dinner with him again. I find that I don’t want to pass up on it. Especially not in exchange for my mother’s leftover chili and another night of unseasonable knitting.

“I’d like to come,” I blurt before I can think too much about it.

“Suit yourself,” Liam says brusquely, but if I didn’t know better, I could swear his lips tip up just the tiniest bit.

Why did my heart flutter a little to see that?

Reel it in, Annie. We are a flutter-free zone.

Liam turns off the main road. “We’ve just got to make one stop on the way.”

“Let me guess,” I say, attempting a joke to get my mind safely back in professional territory. “There’s some super pressing thing you’ve gotta grab from the office?”

“Nope. Have to pick up Legs.”

My smile drops off my face. “Oh. Right.”

I guess I’ll finally get to meet the famous Legs. And Lana.

Surely that’ll be awkward, no? Unless there’s a bit of aSister Wivessituation going on here.

We continue to drive in silence, my mind churning with questions about what I’m getting myself into. If we’re picking up Legs, should I get into the back seat? Or would that be weird?

How does one handle a situation like this? It’s not every day that you hear about a woman being invited to her hot, tattooed boss’s house for dinner along with two of his potential girlfriends.

Annie, why?

Finally, we pull into a strip mall and stop outside a butter-yellow storefront with a rainbow sign that reads “Razzle Dazzle Dance Studio.”

Huh?
