Shock strangles my voice, and I’m not sure if he can even hear me over the demolition noise. Although he seems to as he strides toward us.

“I told you you’re coming home. You belong to me. You are mine.”

His tone grows harsher with each word. The possessive nature in this beast of a man grips me in its claws without him even touching me. He wants to ensure I have no place else to stay except with him.

When he lifts his chin toward the Bentayga parked in front of the SUV that was following me, the driver hustles out and opens the back passenger door.

“Come on angel. It’s time to go.”

He steps next to me, sliding his hand on my lower back and attempting to guide me to the running vehicle. Cool air billows from inside, enticing Pete enough to jump in without a care in the world.

I’m not as agreeable and plant my feet unwilling to let Titan drag me forward.

A chuckle blows against my ear as he tips his head down. “What did I tell you about disrespecting me in front of my men?”

I jerk out of his grasp and twist to face him. “This isn’t a game Titan. I can’t be with someone who I can’t trust. I can’t live my life wondering when on some irritated whim you’re going to kick us out again.”

The normal arrogance dims in his expression, and he frowns at me. “I fucked up. It won’t happen again.”

I want to believe him, but I can’t. “We both know that’s not true.”

“I’ll prove it to you.”

“No.”

His nostrils flair, and his eyes squint. He’s pissed now but he knows better.

“You’re too smart to think I would give in.”

He takes a deep breath, attempting to calm himself. Obviously, he fails with his rigid jaw and relentless stare.

“Fine. But you’re also too smart to think I’ll give up.”

He points to the devastation, and then to his fancy vehicle. “You have no place else to go. Pete’s already made his choice. But of course, feel free to stay out here in the heat for as long as it takes for you to make yours.”

For only a second, his thick fingers cup my damp cheek. “I’m never letting you go. Know that.”

Then he’s on the move, climbing in next to Pete while I stand like a fool on the blistering sidewalk with no house, no money, no options.

Shit! Shit! Shit!

Pete whimpers and paws on Titan’s thigh, upset from me not joining them. I hope he rips the expensive fabric.

Titan plays nonchalant, slowly rolling up the sleeves of his white dress shirt to reveal a smattering of tattoos on his thick forearms. I guess the devil is used to living in an inferno since his lack of a suit coat is the only evidence he’s hot.

Fine.

I will live in his fancy house.

I will enjoy hanging out with Chelsea.

I will land one of these jobs and move out.

I will make options for myself.

This temporary situation will not define me or hold me back.

Just to prove my point that he doesn’t control me, I stride around to the opposite side and open my own door. I sit on the edge of the cushion, grateful Pete burrows between us, and ignore Titan’s laughter. “I hate you.”
