The only thing he’s guilty of is claiming to have fallen in love with my sister. And even that seems legitimate.

All the videos Ramos could hack show him gentle and patient with her. The only pain I saw him inflict on her was from the ink he gave her, which she welcomed.

I’m still sick to my stomach what that tattoo session led to and hurt my damn finger getting that shit turned off quick. I need to gouge out my eyes for what little I did see. Jesus.

My advisor clears his throat. “What do you want to do, boss?”

I have no fucking clue.

I can’t let him know that though. I refuse to look indecisive even to my most trusted man. “Get Addie in here.”

His face blanches for a millisecond before he schools himself. The last time I requested she be brought to me, two men died. I stare him down. If he can’t handle the task, I’ll find someone who can.

My unrelenting glower works as intended, and he hops up. “Yes sir.”

In his haste, he leaves the door open, and I hear the murmur of voices from the kitchen. No one seems to be freaking out about anything. That’s a shocker.

Soft footsteps slowly pad across the hardwood as she makes her way to me. Jaded from the last time she came to my office, she lingers in the doorway. My cock thickens from how gorgeous she is framed in the dark wood. “Come in, angel.”

She hesitates, seemingly from fear, rather than disobedience. Always makes me work for it. “Please.”

Narrow shoulders drop from being hunched around her neck, and she steps inside. Yet she perches on the edge of the chair, ready to bolt if I fuck up again. Not happening. “I should have given you a chance to tell me about Maxim before.”

She jolts from my request and studies me for a moment. I guess I’ve surprised her, hopefully in a good way this time. “I respect your opinion and want to hear your perspective.”

Her head tilts, swaying her silky hair over her back. I need those strands wrapped around my fist again.

“You do?”

I love how pleased she sounds. She’s guarded and needs to see I respect her. I’m more than willing to praise her in every way she deserves. “Yeah, I do. You’re street smart and get things. Plus, you’re rational, while I’m sometimes not.”

My comment earns me a burgeoning grin. She’s not quite ready to tease me but she wants to. Although tenuous, the connection remains unbroken.

“When I met Maxim, I was livid and wouldn’t listen to him. I need to understand him better so I can figure out what his game is.”

With her expression intense, she shakes her head. “I don’t think it’s a game. When his men were around, he acted all hard ass and big dicked like you.”

A chuckle bursts out of me from her description. I didn’t realize she sees me that way. My laughter doesn’t seem to faze her though, and she keeps going.

“But when it was just the two of them, they were in their own little world. He was softer and just seemed…I don’t know, happy. I was there but it was like I wasn’t. He didn’t pay me any attention until she introduced me.”

I sigh from the realization. “Because you’re not a threat. He only worried about her.”

She nods. “He was very protective of her. We used a private entrance with bodyguards all around and were ushered straight to his office. They followed us to her reserved table and watched over her the entire time.”

Now she glows from her cocky smirk. “Until your guysfinallyshowed up and then they eased up a bit but still stayed nearby.”

My Fireball’s back. Thank fuck. “Yeah, yeah. Bust my balls all you want but remember I still have some punishments to dole out for that attitude, angel.”

Scarlet erupts onto her face from the implication. Despite how mad she remains at me, she is also well aware how bad she wants me.

And I want her.

Until she remembers she’s supposed to be angry at me and huffs, rolling her eyes.

“Anyway, he’s getting restless, moaning like a pussy about waiting long enough to claim her, that he deserves the respect of a response from me, blah, blah, blah. So besides being a pain in my ass, he’s implying some threats I won’t tolerate. Luckily, he’s smart enough not to follow through because that will destroy whatever he thinks he has with Chels. Which will end with him dead and her bitching at me for the rest of my life.”

“I think it’s real.”
