“No, I think it was just easier to pretend so he could protect you.”

She nods and sniffs into my shoulder. Titan fills my vision behind her. His face is as flushed as hers and fury radiates from his clenched jaw and rigid body.

I shake my head and hold up my finger. If he gives me just a minute, I think I can get her calmed down. He scowls. I know, I know, no one tells him what to do. Wordlessly I plead with him. We both love her, and I’m sincerely only trying to help.

His eyes flick to my hand rubbing her shuddering back. He softens a little.

Maybe he knows his rage won’t help in such an emotional situation. To my utter amazement, he nods and stands down, sliding out his phone instead of interrogating her.

He’ll exact revenge in his own way. I have to stop him before he does something he’ll regret, and Chelsea won’t forgive. “What did he say when you left?”

“He said he’s sorry, and he loves me. He didn’t want me to leave but I ran out before he could stop me.”

That seems unlikely with his and Titan’s guards. Thank God a war didn’t start. At least not yet anyway.

“What should I do?”

I ask myself the same thing. Do you forgive the man you love—who you believe loves you—when he makes a mistake?

I look at Titan, gripping his cell with a harsh fist, as he listens to the report from one of his men. He catches me watching him and stops pacing, his expression blank as he waits for me to send him a message. “Give him a chance to prove himself to you. If he wants your forgiveness, he’ll earn it.”

Titan’s eyebrows shoot up. Rarely do I shock him. Hell, I’ve shocked myself.

But omission of truth isn’t the same as undeserved retaliation. Although the only way to overcome either one requires the same effort.

The slow smile illuminating his face demonstrates he accepts my challenge.

Now we’ll wait and see if he or Maxim can deliver.

Titan

Addie’s stunning when she tries to play hardball with me, which makes my cock a rod in my pants. The chandelier reflects off her massive ring while she strokes my sister’s back, calming her down from…

Fuck!

Jace has gone silent. Because, I have to assume, he’s waiting for an answer from me. And, I have no idea the question. Because I’m distracted by my woman. Just like he warned.

Whatever.

I’m the boss. Until I’m not the boss—which will never happen—I’m owed obedience and the respect of him repeating himself. “Give it to me again.”

“When Chelsea ran out, his guard gave chase. The guys reacted as expected with a damn face off, but Maxim had his man stand down to keep her from being in the middle of a shootout. Miquel hightailed her to the Maybach, and it doesn’t seem like she had any idea they almost annihilated him.”

Can’t help but respect a man who sacrifices his pride to protect his woman.

“His brigadier’s already contacted me. Wants to make sure she’s all right and schedule dinner for Friday evening.”

Disdain drips in his voice. Disgusted with all of the efforts focused on relationships rather than the business.

If he had his own girl, maybe he’d understand. “Tell him I approve. Same requirements as before or I’ll kill him myself.”

I tap the end button and shove my phone in my pocket. Addie’s worked her magic. Chels has quieted down and lets my fiancée lead her toward the stairs. “So does he live or die?”

They both shoot me dirty looks. Good. I like them feisty instead of broken.

Chels spins fully in my direction. “If he’s going to die, I’ll be the one to do it.”

Well then. I guess she really is my sister. “Fair enough.”
