He kisses my forehead then each cheek then my mouth. “My Fireball’s tougher than a real fireball.”

Explosion.

Despite my exhaustion, I blink until I can see through the haze. My heart aches when Titan comes into focus. Dark circles and frown lines mar his expression. Several days of scruff cover his jawline. He anxiously scans my face searching for something. I’m confused too as to why we’re in a hospital as the room comes into focus. “What’s going on? What happened?”

Rough and scratchy, my words falter as I try to talk to him. He grabs a cup off the side table and holds a straw to my lips. Water has never tasted this good. I gulp down the liquid until fatigue overtakes me and I collapse against the pillow.

He sets down the drink and grabs my hands. “Maxim’s brother tried to kill him with a car bomb at the club. It blew when we were in the parking lot.”

What the hell? Everything feels fuzzy. All I remember is following them through the bar. We were leaving and then nothing. “Is Maxim okay? Where’s Chelsea?”

Titan’s eyes fall shut, and his forehead drops to our entwined fingers. When he sighs, I stop breathing. My heart pounds painfully in my chest.

Monitors next to me start beeping like crazy. I ignore the disruption. I don’t care. I only care about my friend. “Where is she?”

My voice breaks. I can’t do this. I can’t lose one of the only people I love. One of the only people who loves me.

His head flies up, and he grabs my shoulders. “Calm down Addie. She’s alive but in a coma. They can’t get her to wake up.”

Fear I’ve never heard from him before pulses in his words. A nurse sprints into my room straight toward us, only slowing when she sees us talking. The frown lines on her face disappear, and she smiles. Her gaze remains on me while she taps buttons on the screen to quiet the alarms.

“Oh good you’re awake. How are you feeling, Mrs. Gallo?

Emotions swirl in my brain. “Confused.”

“That’s to be expected after what you’ve gone through. Any pain? Any nausea?”

I ignore the questions and focus on the only person who matters right now. “I want to see Chelsea.”

The woman tilts her head and a little eleven forms on the bridge of her nose. “I know you’re worried. But Dr. Samuels is the most experienced neurologist we have, and she’s getting the best of care.”

Appreciative of her conviction, I nod. Yet the reassurance isn’t enough to alleviate my anxiety. I grab Titan’s arm. “Please take me to her. I’m scared. I need to see her.”

He shakes his head, stroking my cheek. “No angel. You’re not getting out of this bed until you’re better.”

The nurse glances from him to me with a firm nod. “Your husband’s right. Let’s have the doctor examine you first before you go anywhere.”

Mrs. Gallo.

Husband.

Flitters of conversation buzz in my mind that I can’t seem to piece together. Although combining the snippets generate an outcome that seems impossible. Except when Titan is the one manipulating the scenario. I glare at him. “What did you do?”

He points to the nurse and then toward the door. “Out.”

Her mouth falls open, and she gasps from his rudeness, but steps back quickly when Titan rises from his seat.

“I—I’ll just leave you two alone for a minute.”

She scurries out, ensuring the door clicks shut behind her.

“You shouldn’t have scared her like that.”

Defiant as ever, he shrugs and drops back into the chair.

When he grasps my hand again, I discover more proof of his scheme. A thin platinum band sparkling with diamonds nestles against my engagement ring. A wide black and silver band encircles his third finger.

Oh my god.
