Most men wrote her off for being the famous actress’s daughter or the kid in the way. Nick didn’t treat her like a kid.

Tonight he treated her like a woman and, without knowing it, gave her what she wanted and needed.

She closed her eyes, letting the heat from the bath soak into her muscles.

“I’ll be back.”

Mulberry nodded, her lids heavy.

Nick smiled and left the bathroom, leaving her to her thoughts.

For the first time in forever, she hadn’t thought about her past or the danger she was in.

There was only what she wanted, needed, and the receptive man to take her to the pleasure she hungered for.

“Your water must be cold by now. Ready to get out?”

Mulberry opened her eyes to see Nick standing by the tub, holding out a fluffy purple towel.

“Yeah, I kind of drifted off for a moment.”

“That’s okay.” He steadied her arm as she stepped out of the tub.

She went to take the towel from him, but he held it out, wrapping it around her and slowly dried her off.

“I have this robe if you want to put it on,” he held out a silky black robe.

“Thanks,” Mulberry knotted it around her.

She bit her lip when he glanced at her as if he was searching for something.

“After you.”

Mulberry walked into the bedroom ahead of him. “Oh.”

Candles were lit on the dresser, and a soft nightlight glowed under the window.

A tray of bread and cheese and a mug of steaming hot chocolate were set on the table “You need something to eat and drink.”

“Thanks, this is nice” Mulberry settled into a chair.

“Aftercare is important.”

Her hands stilled n the mug of hot chocolate. “Aftercare?”

“You’re familiar with it?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Yes. I’ve had some education. But we didn’t … I mean… that was just sex.”

Nick shrugged in his familiar gesture. “That was as vanilla as I go, but Mulberry was intense. You got very vulnerable with me. I need to make sure you are all right. Not just physically but mentally. I get the feeling nobody checks in with you like that often.”

“They do. They asked me how I was doing, and my mom made sure I went to the psychologist appointments.”

“But?” He stroked her cheek with the back of his knuckles.

“I don’t know. It’s like they don’t see me. I didn’t want to be treated differently or treated as an invalid, but it’s nice not to feel like I have to do everything for a moment.”

She broke off a piece of bread.
