“About time. I’m happy for you.”

“But I don’t think she liked me as much as I liked her.”

“Oh well, then she isn’t the girl for you.”

“But I feel awful without her.” Nick strolled to the window.

His grandmother shook her head, her black curls identical to his. “What did she say?”

“Nothing.”

“So you’re moping about a woman you don’t know if she has feelings for you.”

“Oh, she has feelings for me…I just don’t know if they are real.”

“Was she that good at faking it?” Mamie waggled her eyebrows.

“Mamie!” Nick flopped down into an armchair.

Mamie shrugged with a glint in her eye. “Just asking. So don’t you think you should talk to this woman and tell her how you feel? Or you can continue to be happy, yelling at everyone.”

“I don’t yell.”

“That’s not what I hear from the staff.”

“How do you hear anything? You don’t leave this cottage.”

Mamie laughed. “You might be surprised, Nick. I feel like trading all this snow for rain for a little bit.”

“You cannot be serious.” Nick sat forward.

“Why not? I hear your father built an impressive operation out there, and I’d like to see it.

I don’t know if you know this, but I know my way around a computer.”

Nick laughed. “Yes, Mamie. I know.”

“And you can tell this girl to come to meet me? I’d like that.”

“I’m sure you would” Nick stood, kissed her cheek and wondered how he would show Mulberry his feelings for her were true.

“Why did he have to come?” Quinn grumbled.

“Can you stop your whining and lift already?” Erik asked.

Quinn lifted his end of the heavy whipping post that resembled a fallen oak tree. “I am. You need to put more oomph in it.”

“The thing is stupid heavy,” Nick said, taking the middle of the log and lifting it.

“How did this thing even get in here?”

The whipping post was on its way out because it was awkward and didn’t fit on stage. The ceilings in Club Bandit were tall, but this thing only left an inch of clearance between the stage lights.

Zee decided he’d had enough of it and sold it to another BDSM Club owner.

“The truck is here!” Zee called. “Thanks for your help, gentlemen.”
