Nick grabbed a water bottle and threw it to Erik, who pressed it to his jaw.

“We have to find the kid before we can babysit,” Nick said. He returned to his laptop.

“Anything I can do?” Erik asked.

“Yeah, don’t hit him back.”

“He would have been on the floor already,” Erik said.

Nick snorted but knew it was true.

“Why did we all agree to give him a pass?”

“Because he’s awesome. Just like you.” Nick mumbled.

Erik snorted, stretching out his long legs.

Nick slowed the feed down one more time and focused.

He sorely missed his friend and fellow Bandit Brother, Gabe Arthur.

But they’d been without Gabe since he decided Team Stealth wasn’t for him anymore and moved to support his wife in her career goals.

Nick had never noticed how Gabe was a buffer against the tension between Quinn and Erik until the former medic wasn’t there.

He rubbed at his face as he peered at the screen. He’d been looking at this same image feed for three hours.

But he couldn’t leave it because there was something here. He knew it.

A mumbled phrase uttered by one of the fishermen on the boat. If he could just slow it down, piece it together and run it through his software.

“I know. The man needs to see his wife. He shouldn’t take his shit out on you, and yeah, we need more guys.”

“Yeah. Quinn’s temper is making it hard to do the damn job,” Erik got up, marched over to the map pinned on the wall and studied it.

“Anything?” Logan Marrock had to duck to enter the cabin, stooping almost to his knees. “We need to find this kid.”

“We know,” Erik said.

“Christ, what happened to you?” Logan clapped his hands together, snow flying everywhere.

“Quinn,” Erik spat out.

“He needs to get out of the field if he can’t keep his cool.”

It wasn’t the first time Quinn had been sidelined, and Nick wondered if this would be the last job his friend took.

There had been talk at Axis Management of making Quinn the coordinator from the ground as a new Team Stealth was put together – with younger, fresher guys.

Nick ran an audio enhancer program through the feeds, watching Logan pace in the tiny space.

“We have to find him without anyone getting hurt,” Logan said.

Nick glanced at him. “We know, Logan.”

Much of the tension from this job was remembering the last time they went to rescue the child of someone famous.

It wasn’t far from their minds, obviously.
