“Morning, thanks for being here,” she said.

Lena stepped between Grace and herself. “Grace, Glitz magazine called me. I wasn’t aware of this setup until then.”

“I’m not the one who arranged it,” Grace said, raising her eyebrow at Mulberry.

Mulberry said nothing, concentrating on walking into the store.

The bodyguards were dressed in street clothes.

The woman with the sandy hair grabbed a basket at the door as the man held her arm. They were posing as customers.

Lena checked her watch.

“Okay, I’ll be in my car if you need anything.”

“We’ll be fine, thanks, Lena,” Grace replied.

“How long has it been since I’ve been shopping?” Mulberry said. She grabbed her own basket, then made a beeline for the fruit, filling her basket with raspberries, avocados, and oranges.

“Nick doesn’t seem to eat fruit.”

“No? He seems the type to spend a lot of time in the gym.”

“He does, but the only fruit I have found is frozen, which he uses for smoothies. Other than that, there is nothing in his fridge.”

“Good thing you’re here then,” Grace smiled, adding a bunch of bananas to her basket.

After that, they moved to the non-dairy section, where Mulberry grabbed oat milk and yogurt made with goat milk, then went to the snack aisle.

They passed a mom with two car seats in her shopping cart. She smiled at them, but then they passed a worker stocking shelves, and the young girl stopped, staring wide-eyed at Grace.

“Hello,” Grace said.

“Hi,” the girl’s cheeks flamed before returning to her task.

Mulberry scanned the shelves, trying to find her favourite dark chocolate and cherry granola.

Her whole life, she’d be out with Grace or on her way to school, and someone would recognize them. Most of the time, it was a polite smile or a wave.

Sometimes people would ask her mom for autographs, but it wasn’t anything over the top.

Until her mom did the trilogies with Sheldon.

Then they couldn’t go out without being recognized unless they were visiting her grandparents.

Mulberry grabbed a bag of popcorn.

Her mom smiled, but her expression froze when they turned down the next aisle to the bright light of a camera going off and the white light from cellphone cameras going off in their faces.

“Grace! What’s it like being back to work?”

“When does the show air?”

“Is it true you and Sheldon have a love child?”

“Mulberry, are you going to marry Nick Laurent?”

People suddenly crowded them in on all sides. Mulberry bit her lip hard. She thought it’ll be fine; they’ll take their photo, and they’ll go.
