The big frame of Dylan O’Reilly, Emma’s dad’s assistant, stuck his head in, frowning.

The man had always creeped her out.

“They’re looking for you. What are you two doing in this trailer?”

“We’re hanging out, obviously,” Emma said.

“Get on set now. Hi Mulberry.” Dylan’s stern expression softened as he looked at her, making her feel queasy.

He had only looked at her like that since she got taken, and she hated that people treated her differently.

“Hey, Dylan,” she returned.

“Fine. I’m doing it to prove that he can’t make an actor out of me.”

“You haven’t won that argument yet,” Mulberry said.

Emma squeezed her shoulder as she walked by. “Coming? You can watch me make a fool of myself too.”

“I need the washroom.”

“Okay, and there’s candy above the sink! Grab it.”

Dylan stared at her, his brown eyes menacing.

“Like I’m going to rob the place, Dylan?” She raised an eyebrow at him.

“See that you don’t. Stay away from the desk.” He huffed but followed Emma out of the trailer.

Mulberry put her head in her hands. Silence, blessed silence.

After a moment, when her pulse returned to normal, she crossed the room into the small kitchenette and reached above the sink for Emma’s favourite candy, Swedish berries. Mulberry smiled. Some things didn’t change.

It was the small comforts because after she was kidnapped, everything changed.

She frowned, walking by the desk again. Emma’s dad was always super organized and hated things out of place.

She grinned, thinking a prank for old times’ sake would be funny and swept an award statue into her purse.

The door opened again. Dylan sneered at her.

“What took you so long?”

“I thought you were with Emma?”

“She’s with your mom. Were you snooping?”

“Dylan, get a grip,” Mulberry said.

Across the aisle, the door of the opposite trailer opened, and the current fan favourite and one of T.V.’s most loved actors, Patrick Mensi, opened the door.

“Hey, Mulberry! I saw you watching. It’s good to have your mom on set.”

“Yes, she loves acting beside you,” Mulberry flushed at the words, feeling as if she had betrayed a secret of her mom’s.

She wanted her mom to date, and it had been a while.

Patrick smiled. “The feeling is mutual. Can I walk you back? If Mr. Scary and Scrawly doesn’t mind.”
