Sylvia grinned. “Maybe that’s what we want.”

“Oh yeah?” he asked with a dazed smirk. “To fuck me so much I simply die?”

“Yep,” she teased.

He shook his head, but he was smiling.

My phone went off, a notification that our food was here.

I giggled and then rose up, moving for the door. “That should hold you for dinner.”

I grabbed our food from the porch and brought it inside.

“We can sit here and eat,” Sylvia said. “That way you can stay with your nest.”

Alex was quiet for a moment, and then nodded. “Thank you.”

I put the food down on the coffee table, pulling everything out. We’d ordered from a restaurant that secretly served monsters, which meant that Sylvia and I had been able to get food we actually liked. I put everything out, the three of us settling around.

Alex wrapped the blanket around himself again, his cheeks still flushed with heat.

I wondered how many times Sylvia and I would need to make him cum before it broke.

“Inferna told me that Alfred got out of hell,” Alex sighed. “Someone let him out. Well, someone being Lucifer, who is apparently her uncle.”

“Fuck,” I said.

Sylvia was silent, the color draining from her face.

Alex looked over at her, his eyes softening. “He won’t get you again, love. I promise. Neither one of you will be harmed by him.”

I hoped that would be true, although I wasn’t worried about myself as much as Alex and Sylvia. So far, I’d managed to stay out of his crossfire.

“Inferna wants me to stay home. And if both of you are willing to, I’d like for you to stay with me. She suggested breaking my heat and then we can all track him down.”

“Will he wait that long to do something?” I asked.

“We have no way of knowing,” he sighed. “I’m sorry. It’s bad news. And I don’t want either one of you to feel trapped here.”

“If I didn’t want to be here right now, I wouldn’t be,” Sylvia said, her tone surprising me.

Alex looked at her, studying her the same way I did. I still wasn't sure of all the things that she had endured when dealing with Alfred and everything else. She had been trapped there.

Sylvia let out a little growl, standing up. “I need a moment.”

“Okay,” Alex said. “You can use my office or bedroom. Or even backyard,” he said. “It’s small but nice.”

We watched as she left, going to the sliding glass door and slipping outside.

Alex stopped eating, his eyes darkening some. “I hate how much damage I’ve caused.”

“Have you caused this?” I asked, my tone sharp. “Did you hurt her? Was that your purpose?”

“No,” he gasped. “No, of course not.”

“You can’t control Alfred. He’s an evil bastard. Jealous. He likes to hurt others. That’s not your fault, Alex.”

“I know that his actions aren't my fault, but I feel like I could have stopped him sooner. I should have stopped him sooner. After all these years, he still haunts me. He still causes problems for everyone and all because I simply wouldn't give in to him.”
