When we’re in the car riding back to campus, I reach over to put my hand on Alexander’s forearm. In the dark cabin, I can’t see much of the expression on his face—but Ifeelthe intensity of his gaze as he looks over at me.

I feel like I need to say something to him.

Even though it can’t even begin to encapsulate everything that I’m feeling, to evenbeginto wade through the chasm between us. I find a few words.

A start.

“Thank you,” I say. “For the truth.”

He brings the back of my hand to his lips, kissing me in response. It sends a jolt straight to my core. Alexander runs his teeth along my skin, and I know what’s on his mind.

It’s on mine too.

I lean back in my seat, staring out the window.

Of all the things I expected, finding out that Alexander isn’t responsible for the situation I’m in wasn’t one of them. I made so many decisions thinking all of this was his fault.

But it was Cassidy all along.

I spent my time pushing him away and scheming to get away from him.

He spent his time trying to win me back.

Fuck.

THIRTY-THREE

ALEXANDER

Alize isstoic on our way back to our room.

She takes my hand and doesn’t let go of it, though. Which ismuchbetter than she would have done a few hours ago. We’re not out of the woods just yet, but it’ll be much easier to win her over now she knows the truth.

Soon, everything will be back to normal.

Actually, they’ll be better than they were before. We’ll be stronger, and in the future we’ll be able to at least have a decent conversation before jumping to conclusions and fucking things up—on both our ends.

Alize lets go of my hand and slides her palm into the pocket of my jeans as I unlock the door. She sags into me, and I wrap one of my arms around her. With the door open, I pick her up and carry her over the threshold, eliciting a laugh from her.

Leaning down, I kiss her on the lips. She’s soft and warm, her plump lips parting to give me access to the wet heat of her mouth. All of my favorite kisses are with Alize, and it gets my blood pumping to know I ownallof hers.

She’s mine, and she always will be.

The apartment is dark, but I know the layout by heart. I guide us to the living room without stumbling or breaking the kiss, placing her on the loveseat. I’m hovering above her, my hands cupping her face, when she shoves my chest.

I pause. There’s a sliver of moonlight snaking through the curtains, casting a silvery line over her face. Her hazel eyes glimmer, and there’s a small smile on her face.

“What is it?” I ask. Blood is rushing southward, my cock straining against my slacks.

Her eyes fall from my eyes to my lips, then back up. “We haven’t talked yet.”

“Talked?”

She nods. “About what just happened. About what it means for us.”

I lean back, moving my hands to her waist to bring her with me. She’s sprawled across my lap, and I slip my hands underneath the hem of her skirt. Her breath catches, but I keep my fingers in a respectable place—the inside of her thigh—for now.

“What do you want to talk about, sweetheart?” I whisper against the skin of her neck. Running my tongue along the sensitive flesh of her jaw rises goosebumps all over her soft skin.
