“This is interesting,” he said beside her.
“Those two are insane if they think Stacey’s going to like being used as a stake.”
“Um hmm,” Stacey said clearing her throat as she cut into the group. “Well, it seems we’ve got a bit too much testosterone in one room, especially one as small as this.”
“The room’s not small Stacey,” Emma commented as she followed her.
“It is when there’s this many lugs who are about six feet tall all standing around when we have a charity event to get finalized. I’m sure by now Lizzie has given you a sheet. Please fill it out and leave the machismo for your games or at the very least the night of the auction. You can try and sway the women as much as you want then and rag on each other but for now, we’ve got things to do and you boys have photos to take,” Stacey stated as the two groups stared at her.
“I’m Stacey by the way and sorry to say but the last thing I’ll be doing is joining either team for a victory dinner. Gary, please behave, I’d rather not have to crush the hearts of every single man in the room,” she added to him before looking at Jake. “If you can call the TV station, I’ll get the radio announcers to get the word out.”
“Sure thing, is there anything else I can help you with?”
“Yes, I left a few things in my office that need brought over. If you can help me get them, it’d be great and I can make those calls from there,” she said giving him a smile that the rest of the room couldn’t see.
“Absolutely,” he agreed as they left.
“Okay is it just me or is there something going on with them?” Lizzie asked watching them go.
“Don’t buy into the hype about Jake out there,” Beau said as a couple others chuckled. “That guy is either completely insane or just not ready to admit who he really is.”
“What?” she said with a laugh. “There is no way that man is…no.”
“All I can say is that the women who claim they’ve slept with him are lying through their teeth,” he replied.
“It’s true,” Dan added. “We’ve met up with some and they say that for a bit it’s easy sailing but then when it comes time to go from the dinner to the after he’s not interested.”
“Maybe he just has a problem that takes a bit to overcome?” Lizzie offered.
“I don’t think that’s it,” Beau stated. “I stopped by his place once and everything seemed to be in working order.”
“Well, if there’s a woman out there that could entice him it’d be her,” Dan offered. “Why don’t we have hotties like that back home?”
“Stacey’s my best friend, her good friend and friends with practically everyone else in the room,” Emma warned indicating Lizzie and the others in the room. “Not to mention that my husband is Jake’s best friend and she’ll ground you into dust. You’ll fall, want to propose, and she’ll break your heart.”
“No girl will ever break my heart,” Dan replied.
“Yeah, well Stacey’s not just some girl. There’s a list a mile long of guys that have fallen and if you have any questions you might want to talk to Walker over there, he’s got firsthand experience,” Emma stated as the doors opened and the group to set up the stage and the room came in. “Oh hell…”
“Everything okay Emma?” Lizzie asked.
“No, Stacey’s going to flip.”
“Why?” Gary inquired.
“Because I can guarantee she didn’t know they were the ones coming to set the room up,” she said watching the three men in the group of eight that were looking around the room.
“Should we be concerned?” Mark asked.
“If she gets back before they’re done, you’d better hide the tools because I can’t guarantee it won’t turn into a bloodbath,” she admitted taking out her phone. “Miles…we’ve got a huge problem, Nathaniel’s out and he’s currently in the ballroom with the crew that’s supposed to set up the stage along with Alan and Ricky.”
“Where are Stacey and Jake?”
“They went to her office to pick up some things.”
“Crap she hasn’t told him, has she?”
“No,” she answered moving away from the group slightly. “I don’t think anyone knows outside of those of us who were there but there’s no way she knows that he’s out. She wouldn’t be sleeping if she did.”
