“You don’t like my mouth staying shut,” Jake countered with a gaze everyone could read.

“Shut up Jake.”

“Cee and I went to the same high school, started dating my senior year and she was mine until the end of my junior year in college.”

“So, you two broke up because you got drafted?” Lisa asked.

“No,” Jake said as she answered with a yes.

“Okay, is it yes or no?” Celia questioned.

“We did break up because of football,” she stated.

“It was more than just a breakup Cee and you weren’t just my girlfriend.”

“You’re really going to bring it all to light?” she asked turning to look at him.

“Every bit of it, all it’ll take is one reporter here to search my name and yours together and it’ll be all over the morning papers.”

“What will be?” Tristan asked as his teammates listened in.

“Cee’s my fiancée.”

“Wasyour fiancée; you didn’t show up to the wedding,” she countered as gasps slipped from around the space.

“Trust me I was crucified for it plenty by everyone in town, my mother barely speaks to me but maybe when she hears that I finally found you she’ll not glare whenever she hears football mentioned.”

“So that’s all this is? A way to get back into your mom’s good graces?” she asked shooting him a look that said she wanted him to admit exactly why he was there.

“No, if that’s all I was after I’d have called her the second that I picked my jaw up off the floor at the church. You know exactly why I’m still here Cee, why I agreed to this dumb thing knowing it’d take a miracle to get you to bid on me,” he answered her with ease making her smile lightly.

“Well, it wasn’t a miracle but there’s no way I was going to let Angie take you to my event. I helped plan it and she’s not going to enjoy it and you together.”

“Okay can we go back here a bit,” Mark asked looking between them. “This entire time the two of you have been seeing each other?”

“Yes,” she admitted.

“You’re seeing your ex-fiancé?” Lisa asked.

“Yes,” she said again.

“Why? I mean you never go out with anyone more than five times yet you two have been together now for…” Celia said looking between them.

“Almost five months,” Jake answered.

“So, this guy breaks your heart by not marrying you and you in return break a million others and then just go back to him?” Tristan asked.

“Guess I should admit my part in the breakup,” she stated. “I was tired of football taking precedence over me, so I told Jake that he either had to give it up or me, when he chose football I wasn’t that surprised or hurt over it.”

“You’ve spent eight years murdering the male ego all over town Stacey,” Lisa said pointedly.

“Because none of them were him you think?” she asked with a hint of a smile. “Sorry to disappoint you but Jake’s not the one I’ve been missing.”

“I’m not?” he stated.

“Nope, I’ve been missing my family and when you showed up at the church for Emma’s wedding, I realized that I had already started a new one. Now I’m just with you because you do treat me like a queen.”

“Not the mystery man you won’t tell me about?” he asked.
