“She came to me when I went back for the five-year reunion. I knew Toni would be there with Troy and I was praying she’d heard from you.”

“So, because she didn’t you just…”

“I was stupid to leave the reunion with her but I was back home and you weren’t with me the way I’d planned. I started drinking and by the time we’d gotten upstairs, I didn’t want to think of you anymore because it hurt too much so I let her kiss me. We were almost to the bed when I called her Cee.”

“You mistook her for me?” she asked incredulously.

“Not for a second, yes her lips were the ones on mine, but you were the one I was kissing in my mind and when I realized it was her in my arms, I told her to get out that I wouldn’t betray you with her.”

“No wonder she was so irritated to see me with you,” she laughed lightly.

“Mmm, you’re the only one I want in my arms.”

“But do you get why I can’t say yes?”

“I can see why you don’t want to risk it but Cee, just because you say yes to me it doesn’t mean we have to tell anyone.”

“You’d really be able to keep it to yourself that I’d agreed? You wouldn’t tell anyone? Wouldn’t buy a ring to put on my finger?”

“Alright, everyone on the team would know instantly.”

“Exactly and I won’t let you get hurt because of me, so for now, no I won’t marry you.”

“I’ll get you to change your mind,” he whispered against her lips proceeding to kiss her until their flight was called.

He pulled her up against his side once they were on the plane and held her tightly especially once he saw the flight attendant aboard. “Cee, don’t get upset but…”

“But what?” she asked when he paused. She followed his gaze and saw the flight attendant watching them closely. “You slept with her, didn’t you?”

“No, there’s only ever been you but…”

“You fooled around?” she guessed and saw the confirmation in the woman’s eyes as she reached them.

“Jake, it’s so good to see you lover.”

“Isn’t it slander to call someone lover when they’ve never truly been one?” she asked quietly sending the woman a pointed look.

“Darlin this man’s been with everyone,” the woman laughed.

“No, he hasn’t and we don’t need anything you’re possibly offering.”

“She obviously hasn’t been in your bed or she’d know, wouldn’t she?” the stewardess said leaning over towards him.

“Alexa this is Cee,” he stated, and the woman’s eyes narrowed.

“No shitin way,” Alexa said staring at her. “I thought that was just some load of crap because you couldn’t…”

“Oh, he can,” Stacey laughed, “as long as it’s with me.”

“You’ve ruined me for other women Cee; you’ve held my heart and soul captive for twelve years now.”

“Oh brother,” Alexa grumbled walking away.

“So, you were serious about not sleeping with anyone other than me?” she asked unbuckling her belt as the light went off. She slid over his lap resting her back against the window and grinned up at him as he pulled her closer against his chest. “That wasn’t just some ruse…”

“No, it wasn’t, I swear it wasn’t baby. It was a hundred percent true.”

“Jake—I can’t believe it. I mean, I know you. I know how your body craves that connection and you’re seriously saying…”
