“Other than a few gropes here and there I haven’t wanted anyone but you. It might be insane but it’s true Cee. You destroyed my ability to be with anyone else baby, it never felt right until I saw you, kissed you, and then there was no possible way of stopping.”

“So, for eight years the only way you got any relief…”

“Was alone thinking of you and your gorgeous eyes.”

“That’s…”

“Unbelievable? I know but it’s true,” he whispered against her lips.

“You really love me, don’t you?” she sighed happily, finally ready to admit the truth to him.

“Took you long enough to figure it out,” he laughed. “I’ve told you a million times the last five months.”

“Maybe I simply couldn’t believe it until I saw it, I like seeing things remember? It stays in my head longer.”

“You never forget anything baby, but does this mean you’ll say yes the next time I ask?”

“Ask what?” she teased settling into his hold as she ignored the looks tossed their way.

“That four-word question I asked you earlier.”

“Oh, that one? I don’t know it depends on how you react to my news.”

“What news?” he asked worried.

“About that mystery man…”

“I don’t want to know anymore Cee. I just want to focus on the future not go back over the past again. Haven’t we fought about it enough the last week? We finally are happy despite everything that we’re going through right now. I don’t want to mess with anything that will affect what we have.”

“You really don’t care anymore?”

“I won’t lie, part of me does care, wants to know everything but I don’t want another fight, especially right now.”

“Okay, we’ll let it go for now,” she agreed happily though it wasn’t likely they’d argue, and she really wasn’t about to join the mile high club, at least not on a commercial jet.

“I love you baby,” he whispered against the top of her head.

“Mmm, I know you do,” she sighed holding her return sentiment in still. She couldn’t risk it until after Nathaniel, Alan and Ricky were arrested because she wanted him to propose again and this time she was going to say yes. She had to say yes because if she didn’t, she’d regret it. They just had to get past this first.

It might take a bit, but it’d be worth it, and, in the end, they’d be happy. It was bound to happen. She’d been too unhappy for too long; it was time to be happy. She deserved it after everything else, didn’t she? Stay positive, that’s all she had to do, just stay positive.

Chapter 12

“Stacey, honey what’s going on with you and Jake? It’s been almost two weeks since you’ve been back and you barely leave this hotel,” Emma said moving onto the couch beside her. “You all seem to be happy but you’re still holding something back, why?”

“I think you know why Em, if we go back out into the public right now everyone is going to see what’s between us. They’re going to know that he means everything to me, and they’ll go after him to get to me. By staying out of sight, I keep him safe, along with you and Miles. You’re my family and I’m not going to let you get hurt because of me.”

“We’ll make sure to watch out for ourselves. So does this mean that you and him—you’re together completely?”

“Yes, no we’re not getting married—not yet at least because the instant I agree to let him take control over my whole heart he won’t be able to stop the happiness from showing.”

“But you want to?”

“Yes, I want to Em; I’ve wanted to for eight years but couldn’t trust that he was really mine.”

“And now?”

“I know he’s mine, he’s always been mine,” she said with a smile that had Emma looking at her harder.
