“Yep.” I sip the last of my smoothie and throw a perfect arc into the wastepaper basket fifteen feet away.
“I’ll say it again. You’ve got it bad.”
“You’re wrong.”
“Have it your way.” Ben rises. “You ready?”
“Yeah.” Then I rake my fingers through my hair. “Seriously?”
Into the juice bar walks not only Mandy but her sister as well. They’re carrying shopping bags from Macy’s.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I say.
Ben turns back toward me. “Speak of the lovely little devil.”
Man. She’s going to remember meeting Ben at the sushi place when I had to cancel. How can I get out of here without her seeing me?
Too freaking late.
“Jack!” Frankie waves.
Next thing I know, she’s pulling Mandy toward the small table that Ben and I are sharing. Ben is still standing, and I join him.
“Hey, Frankie. Mandy. We were just leaving.”
Ben seems to have other plans, though. “If it isn’t the lovely lady who disappeared on me at lunch the other day.”
Mandy blushes.
My cock responds.
“Something came up,” Mandy says, not meeting Ben’s or my gaze.
“I understand,” Ben says. “Would the two of you like to join us?”
Frankie is pulling on Mandy’s arm. Yup. She recognizes Ben. “Absolutely. We’ll just go put in our order.”
“Don’t be silly,” Ben says in that low voice that makes women fall all over him. “Let me get this for you. What would you two ladies like?”
“Mandy has a workout in an hour, so something light. But something that will give her energy.”
“I know just the thing. And for you?”
“Whatever you get for her will be great for me.” Frankie smiles. Then she plunks her ass down in the seat that Ben vacated.
Which means Mandy has to sit next to me.
It also means, once Ben returns, he will be sitting next to Frankie.
That worked out well. I’d think she planned it except she’s engaged to be married. Why would she have any interest in flirting with Ben Black?
I have nothing to say to Mandy. Except that’s a big-ass lie. But I can’t say anything with her sister sitting here. And certainly not when Ben returns.
“How did you sleep?” I ask her.
“Like a baby,” she says tersely.
“So you’re working out today?”
