“I didn’t see you all day,” Abigail says after a short beat of silence. She shrugs hesitantly. “It felt…weird. You’re always around.”

She’s sitting so close. It wouldn’t take much to tug her into my lap and violate her pretty lips. She’s in my head, and it’s driving me crazy.

“Is that a way of telling me you missed me, ma petite?” I ask in a light tone that reveals nothing of the dark, sinful desires coursing through my veins at the moment.

“In your wildest dreams, monsieur,” she says with all snort. Her imitation of the Cajun accent is surprisingly perfect.

“You have a comeback for everything, don’t you?” I tease, and she smirks at me in response. I lean forward a little, keeping my eyes on hers. “You know…,” I say softly. “I’m barely holding myself back from kissing you speechless, ma petite.”

She blinks rapidly at me in speechless surprise. She opens her mouth to say something but then presses her lips together.

“See?” I say, casually leaning back against the sofa. “And I haven’t even put my lips on yours. Yet,” I add with a small wink.

“My God, you’re impossible,” she says with a small snort. Despite her unaffected tone, I can tell from the slight blush crawling up the base of her neck that she’s affected. A tense silence settles between us, and I can’t help but wonder what would happen if the other inhabitants of the clubhouse weren’t surrounding us.

I probably would have ripped that baggy shirt off her with my tongue buried deep in her mouth…Maybe.

“How…How was your day?” she asks after a while. And from the slight tremor in her voice, I could tell that our thoughts weren’t too far apart.

“I was at Graceland hospital,” I say, loving the way her eyes instantly brighten.

“Really?” she asks hopefully. “Did you meet Laura? How’s she doing?”

“Laura’s fine,” I reply calmly. “There seems to be no cause for alarm.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” she says with a small relieved smile. I can tell that she really cares a lot about her sister, and even though she doesn’t talk about it, she must have been worried.

I gesture at the shopping bags at my feet, feeling more than a little uneasy. “I…I got you some toiletries and a couple of changes of clothes. I…I thought you might need them.”

Her smile widens even more, and a soft expression crosses her eyes as she looks at the bags. “Thank you,” she says quietly, a bashful blush slowly spreading across her cheeks.

“I don’t think you should say that to your abductor,” I say with a teasing grin.

“Well, I don’t feel abducted,” she says quietly, looking deep into my eyes as if trying to pass a secret message.

“You intrigue me, ma chérie,” I mumble, captivated by the tantalizing depth of her magical hazel eyes. “A lot.”

Seer

She’s bruised. Badly.

It seems like she’s taken a good beating, yet she struggles futilely against the strong ropes that bind her hands to the bed frame. She’s completely naked.

Tears course down her cheeks despite the stubborn glint in her eyes. I can feel her terror and shame like they’re mine. She shivers from an inner chill that leaves goosebumps all over her skin.

He rises swiftly from a chair in the corner, his sinister features coming to light. He has a wicked-looking whip in his right hand and a slim boning knife in his left.

My heart thumps faster, indicating the acceleration in hers.

“He’ll never do it,” she spits at him. “Pocus will never do your filthy work!”

“Oh, he will,” the man replies. He lowers himself to the bed and slowly trails the knife up her thigh. “Because you, my darling, will persuade him.”

She squeezes her eyes shut and grinds her teeth against the pain to come. I can feel her resolve quickly slipping from her grip.

“You are mine, Evanesce,” he says in a cold whisper that sends chills down my spine. “All of you. To do as I deem fit.”
