He growled. “Motherfucker.”

“You heard what I said, didn’t you?” I argued. “Bastard was going to rape her—”

“You don’t know that.”

“Don’t I? Ain’t I living proof that the fucker doesn’t care about raping poor girls?”

Rex huffed. “Don’t get me in my feels.”

“Why not? I’m in mine. What’s with all the calls anyway? Were you guys concerned about me?”

My mocking tone had him grunting. “Fucker disappears from the clubhouse, can’t be found anywhere on the compound, and was acting sneaky as hell after he switched guard duty with another brother?

“Throw in our text conversation and you bet your ass I was worried. You’re beyond reliable.Usually. I was thinking someone had fucking hijacked you or some shit.”

“It’s nice to know you care.”

I received another grunt for my pains.

It wasn’t a lie, though.

Itwasnice to know he cared. Especially when I took in the hundreds of missed calls I’d had from brothers the club over. None of which, it seemed, were related to MaryCat.

Before we grew ovaries, I checked, “The Five Points been sniffing around?”

“No. Doubt they realize the girl knows about her half-brother. Not sure it’s something Sin’s skank mother would advertise.”

I’d admit, my relief was real. I didn’t want to bring war to the Sinners, but serving my sperm donor a sweet ‘fuck you’ and saving the girl from his miserable hide was worth it any day of the week.

“You’re really married?”

I heard his astonishment. “Want to see a picture of the marriage certificate?”

He snickered. “No. I believe you. Just can’t believe you’re fucking married. Weren’t you the guy who used to get hammered on vodka and Red Bull, declaring that marriage was for pussies?”

“Vengeance tastes nicer than vodka and Red Bull.”

“It fucking better.” I could almost imagine him shaking his head. “Why did you have to go all the way to Vegas, dipshit? There are plenty of one-day states where you could have gotten married without heading off to the other side of the country.”

My mouth rounded. “What?”

“Lemme see… Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. Yeah, they’re all one-day states. I mean, fuck, why didn’t you stay in Coshocton? We have a sister chapter there, you complete dumbass.” He snorted. “Some digger of truth you fucking are. Use Google next time. Google is your friend.”

He couldn’t see me, so I flipped him the bird. “Jesus.” I thought about MaryCat’s exhaustion and pulled a face. “Crap.”

Marriage hadn’t exactly been a priority of mine, so I hadn’t thought to look.

“Sums it up.” Rex cackled.

“How do you know that?” I jibed. “Been looking at getting married?”

He sniffed but didn’t answer me. “Bill Murphy’s like a bad goddamn smell you can’t get rid of. I almost wish your mom had kept your sperm donor’s identity a secret.”

“I don’t.”

“You wouldn’t,” Rex groused. “Instead, I’ve got one of my best men going half-fucking-cocked on vigilante missions against a Five Pointer. It’s a wonder we haven’t gone to war yet.”

When I’d beaten the crap out of Daddy Dearest, I hadn’t worn my cut. Ties to the Sinners were there if the Five Points looked, but apparently, Bill wasn’t worth even a glance.
