“London. Stress. All the drama,” he says, looking determined now. “I have a place on Lake Como. We can take the jet after dinner and wake up there tomorrow morning.”

“Are you serious?” I gape at him. “Just like that?”

He chuckles, amused. “Just like that. I know things can be hectic in my life, especially if you’re not used to it,” he adds. Sebastian takes my hand and gives it a supportive squeeze. “It’ll be just the two of us, away from everything. What do you say?”

The idea is intoxicating. Escape my guilt over all my lies, and these twisted games that seem to go deeper, every day…?

Just the two of us.

“Yes,” I say immediately, holding on tight to him. “Please, let’s do it.”

AVERY

I guess takingoff for Lake Como for the weekend is no big deal when you’re Sebastian Wolfe. After stopping back at the house after dinner to pack our bags, we head straight to the airfield, where we board a chic private jet. Just a few hours later, we arrive just outside Milan, where we spend the night at a luxurious hotel in the city.

At least, that’s what I assume, when I wake alone in my private suite, with only groggy memories of the trip. I pretty much passed out the moment my head hit the buttery leather seat of the jet, so the excitement of the getaway has passed me by.

But pulling back the ornate drapes in a lavish suite, to find myself looking at gorgeous views …

I can’t help the smile of anticipation on my face.

Or the guilt I feel, over the fact I actuallywantedto come away with Sebastian.

It makes perfect sense, I tell myself, as I get dressed for the day in jeans, and a casual cashmere sweater. This trip is perfect timing to get some distance between us and Richard’s power moves. Not to mention, get Sebastian away from Becca, before she somehow gets through to him and makes him question the whole embezzlement setup.

But I know, deep down, those aren’t my only reasons for saying ‘Yes’. After everything I’ve been through over the past months, I find myself craving a break from all our twisted games. Just a couple of days to relax and refresh myself for the fights still ahead.

My anger has been corroding me from the inside out. Would it really be so bad to set it aside, and try to enjoy myself here?

There’s a knock, and when I go to the door, Sebastian is waiting for me, looking deliciously dressed-down in dark-wash jeans and a cashmere sweater.

“You’re awake,” he says, smiling. “I thought I’d have to throw you over my shoulder and carry you to the car. Again.”

I laugh. “I’m sorry! I don’t know what happened, I must have been exhausted, I missed the whole flight.”

“Don’t apologize,” Sebastian kisses my lips. “That’s what we’re here for.”

“For me to sleep through everything?”

“To relax,” he replies, and I can see, his usual tension is already gone. He almost seems content as we grab my bags, and I follow him downstairs, and out of the front of the hotel—where a classic sportscar is waiting at the curb, drawing admiring looks from people nearby.

Sebastian casually strolls over and loads our bags in the back.

“Wait, this is yours?” I ask in surprise.

“I thought we could travel in style,” he replies, and I stroke the gleaming chassis reverently.

“It’s a gorgeous machine,” I breathe, admiring. I’ve always had a thing for cars, and this one is a beauty.

“I’ll let you drive her later,” Sebastian says, holding the passenger door open for me.

I smile. “Why is it men always think their cars are female?” I ask, teasing, as he gets settled behind the wheel.

Sebastian gives me a wicked smile. “Because the good ones are temperamental, dangerous, and give us the ride of our lives.”

My laughter is swallowed up by the sound of the engine, as Sebastian guns the ignition, and roars away.
