Mason

He’s ruthless.

He’s dark.

He’s seductive.

He’s the kind of man a girl should stay the hell away from.

I’m not the kind of girl that’s ever really been seen, always preferring data, romantic comedies, and books to interacting with people. The problem however is my boss has given me a new assignment. I’m to be at Mason’s Zacchara’s beck and call.

Whatever Mason wants, Mason will get.

I was only suppose to be an assistant to the CEO not an assistant to the assassin for hire.

Life just got weird.

ChapterOne

Nora

Iwas in the middle of bum fuck nowhere and I wasn’t happy about it. However, I was here on the orders from my boss. Sebastian DeLuca had given me a directive and I intended to see it through.

Arriving in Virgin Creek, Alaska at the ass crack of dawn hadn’t been what I’d planned for my weekend. I’d calculated exactly how many hours I’d be sleeping this weekend while catching up on some of my television shows. I was behind onAll American: Homecoming, and about ten other shows.

Stepping into the rustic but charming hotel, I made my way to the front desk of theVirgin Creek Inn. Peering around, I tried to locate the front desk attendant. Finally, she appeared before I could ring the bell. She was an older native woman with black hair braided down the middle of her back. A few whisps of gray hair decorated her mane and her piercing dark eyes took me in.

“Good morning,” I smiled.

“Morning,” she didn’t return the smile, instead her eyes roamed over my features.

“I was told I’d be able to get someone to take me to this address.” Shuffling around in the back pocket of the black jeans I was wearing, I pulled out a folded piece of paper.

“There’s no taxi here,” the woman shrugged pulling her shawl closer. My eyes noted that the deep reach blue hues matched the dream catcher earrings she wore in her ears. She seemed distrustful and I had no idea what I needed to do to remedy that.

Money,I thought.

“I’m not sure how long I’m staying but I’d like to get a room,” I smiled again pulling out the corporate credit card.

That helped to ease the tension in the room. I sensed they didn’t get a lot of people in here but plastic was good in any location.

“How many nights?” she asked.

“Maybe one,” I nodded.

She paused about to say something.

“But…lets just keep it open, I may need more. It might take me a few days to find the person I’m looking for,” I sat the plastic down on the counter and slid it over to the woman along with my ID.

“Here’s to hoping you enjoy your stay,” she smiled.

While the inn keeper entered my information into her dated desktop, my eyes roamed the premises. Birds of prey were frozen in stances, stiff and lifeless. My eyes were drawn to a tapestry on the wall, it seemed to shimmer as if there was something causing it to move in the light coming from the window. It was a giant depiction of a raven, with a cream colored pebble in his mouth. My feet brought me over and I intensely studied the needlepoint. It was nothing short of marvelous.

“Raven,” a voice said beside me and I turned to find the inn keeper.

“Did you make this?”

She laughed heartily and handed me back my card and me my Washington state license back. “My grandmother. She runs an online shop and sells her things. But this one I kept for the inn.”
