Chancing a look, I saw that she pulled out her cellphone and had service. It was lighting up with messages and notifications from social media from what I could tell.

“Sweet civilization,” she looked over at me and smiled.

Her full lips did something to me but I shook it away. Nora had made it clear a while back that she didn’t share my interest. Pulling to the front of the small inn run by the nosiest woman in town, I was waiting for Nora to hop out so I could drive away.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me!”

I didn’t like the sound of that at all. She got out of my truck and slammed the door hard as hell. She began to scream bloody murder and people turned to stare as they walked by. I saw the inn keeper peeking through the windows.

Rubbing at the bridge of my nose, I got out.

“What?”

Nora turned to me. Her face was a mix of rage and annoyance.

“Nothing,” a smile eased on her face and I knew it was a lie.

She repeated the word and I shrugged getting back into my truck. She finally entered the inn and I peeled away from the place. Needing to make a supply run, I reached into the glove box of my truck where I kept some extra cash. My cellphone was in there as well.

I had two waiting messages. One from my brother Mateo, and one from Sebastian. Mateo could wait, Mr. DeLuca couldn’t. I opened his first and read it.

Nora is to accompany you to Italy. She is there to assist you however you may need in order to find Gisella. No expense is to be spared. Bring her back to Seattle no matter what. Check in shortly.

A grin appeared on my face as I did a U-turn in the middle of the road. There was hardly any traffic and no one even gave so much as a beep. If this had been Seattle, I would have gotten cussed out by angry pedestrians. By the time I got back to the Virgin Creek Inn, Nora was standing on the front steps.

Leaning out the window I smirked, “I hear you’re going to be my good little assistant, Darlin.”

She came down the steps, with an air of annoyance. “Step one, I find someone to fly us out of here in the next two hours.”

“Good luck, next plane doesn’t leave for maybe another day or so…” I laughed.

She cocked her head. “Clearly, you don’t know me, Mason. You have your skill set, and I have mine.”

Nora turned and started back up the steps before stopping. She hollered over her shoulder, “I’m going to check out, go pack your shit and be back here in two hours.”

Shaking my head, I frowned and drove away. I had no doubt that she was going to find someone to fly us out of here. My vacation had not only been interrupted but it was now clearly, over.

Back to reality,I thought.

ChapterFour

Nora

Working for Sebastian DeLuca had its perks. Not only did he pay well, but he also had a private jet. Two summers ago, I’d been able to fly my mom to Paris for her fiftieth birthday. Her and all her church lady friends had thought that was just the coolest thing.

Having a private jet came in handy for emergencies too. Like now, when we had to go off on an adventure to find his missing sister. Gisella DeLuca was just a few years older than me but I remembered her and Mason from high school. She’d been the queen bee, and I’d been a nerdy geeky girl whose identity was wrapped up in the computer club. She’s said the occasional mean shit to me, letting me know exactly where I resided in the high school hierarchy.

We hadn’t run in the same circles but I remembered her pulling a knife on a girl who’d looked too hard at Mason.

Her daddy had gotten her out of that one.

That’d been the start of the rumors about the DeLucas in Seattle.

Mafia…

However, up until the incident with his twins, Sebastian had been nothing but above board with his business. He was honorable and treated me with respect. Everyone at DeLuca technologies admired him and thought he had set the sun in the sky himself.

The glare of the computer screen caused me to take my glasses off and rub my eyes. We’d been flying for a long time now and I had most of Mr. DeLuca’s meetings worked out for the next three days. When I looked up, I found Mason’s brown eyes staring at me.
