“You didn’t tell me you had twin?”

The man beside Mason laughed and smacked at his back.

“Please, sweetheart. I’m way prettier than this ugly motherfucker!” He stuck out his hand and I shook it. “I’m Matteo, his older brother.”

“Well, I’m gonna head back over to my sister. Nice meeting you Matteo.”

I moved in between the two men and I could feel Mason’s eyes leaving a heated trail on my ass all the way back to my table. By the time I worked my way through crowd with my little shot glass, Rain was grinning from ear to ear.

“Who were the hotties?” she was looking around me and at them.

She gave a wave in their direction and I smacked at her hand.

“Absolutely not,” I told her. “That right there is a bad decision. One of them is my co-worker.”

She gave me a look and pursed her lips together. “Something you don’t know anything about. Now tell me about Rome…”

The shot of liquor left me feeling all warm inside and the beer arrived just in time. I started from the very beginning telling Rain about flying to Alaska and finding Mason in a pool of freezing cold water and discovering that he was pierced.

“My God, have mercy….you sure you don’t want him. Because if you don’t, I’m gonna take a stab at it.”

Mason and his brother were currently playing pool at the tables on the far side of the bar. I chanced looking in his direction and it was as if something told him to look up and he caught my eye. This motherfucker had the audacity to wink at me before going back to his game.

“Leave him alone…”

“What about the brother?”

I frowned. “Aren’t you seeing someone?”

She drank the rest of her beer and let out the most un-lady like burp. “I fuck who I want to fuck….okay? I’m a City Girl.”

“Yeah, okay!” I rolled my eyes.

Mason’s eyes were on me again. I could feel it and I didn’t even need to look. He was coming across the room for me and I could feel him approaching. It was as if the very air in this place had turned dark and started whispering with electricity.

Some low and soothing country song had started to play. It seemed familiar like a warm blanket, and I recognized it after a few more moments. The song had played on the radio when I’d been in Alaska.

“Come dance with me,” Mason leaned down and whispered into my ear.

“Mason…”

“Nora, for once just shut up and stop over thinking it. It’s one dance, Darlin.”

He pulled me up and my sister gave a squeal of laughter as she waved me away. I rolled my eyes and allowed him to lead me to the floor. Automatically my hands went around his neck and we began to sway.

“I mean this isn’t awkward or anything?” I chanced looking up at him.

“…Nora, just relax.”

“Where’d your brother go?” I asked trying to look around.

Mason sighed and I felt it against my chest. “Please don’t worry about my brother. In fact, pretend he doesn’t even exist.”

I rolled my eyes. “Maybe, I’ll make him my spank bank material for tonight.”

Mason’s hands were on the base of my back but they slid down to my ass cheeks. He palmed them, not caring that anyone might be watching and squeezed just hard enough. The song we’d been swaying to was coming to an end and then another started, this one even slower.

Our bodies just wavered slowly, gently even.
