Plink!

Water was falling off the clothing I wore and echoing against the wooden floorboards. Briefly, I wondered if Mason hadn’t come back for me would I have been swallowed up by the creek turned raging river.

A chill worked its way along my spine and Mason appeared in front of me. I barely had time to process the fact that he was there.

He handed me a towel, shoving it in my hands. “Here.”

My teeth still chattering, I managed a small, “Thank you.”

“You’re cold,” he observed.

Fighting the urge to roll my eyes at his amazing observation skills, I dragged the towel along my face. My hair was for sure waterlogged under the protective styling of the twenty-inch weave I wore. My head felt heavy as I moved towel to pull out some of the moisture.

“Yes,” I managed to get out.

“Strip and get out of those clothes,” he stared at me.

“What?” I nearly choked.

Mason rolled his eyes and repeated himself. “You’ve seen my dick already…and you’re getting water all over my floors. I don’t need you tracking water all over the place. I’ll make a fire and get you some warm clothes.”

My stomach churned at his tone, and I knew my skin was flaming up at his words.

He disappeared again.

Why don’t I ever hear him walking, I thought.

There were rumors about Mason. There were rumors about Mr. DeLuca too.

I didn’t dare look into either one of them. After Mr. DeLuca’s twins had been kidnapped a few months ago and Mr. DeLuca’s ex had disappeared without a trace….

I knew what those rumors, or at least some of the whisperings were true. Mason had asked me out before the kidnapping. We’d flirted. It was fun. But after that whole fiasco, I’d kindly declined anymore of his advances.

Slowly, I began to peel the waterlogged clothing from my body. I started with my shirt, pulling it over my head even though it seemed to want to cling to my skin. My heart seemed to quicken when I thought I heard a sound. Part of me wondered was Mason standing around some corner peeking in on me. Layer by layer was pulled from my body, until I was completely naked. My breasts hung slightly heavy, my nipples already sharply pointed diamonds. The cool air caressed my skin, and more shivers wracked my body. Finally, I wrapped the damp towel that had been provided to me around my body.

I stood.

I waited.

Eventually Mason arrived in fresh clothing, with more towels to mop up the mess on the floor and handed me an oversized Seattle Mariners t-shirt, and some sweatpants. Moving out of his way, I stood there awkwardly as he scooped up my clothes and the wet towels. The hum of a dryer somewhere in the back coming to life hit my ears. A breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding escaped.

He returned, his footsteps still quiet, startling me out of my thoughts.

“I’m going to start a fire,” he murmured.

The front door to the house opened and he stepped outside to gather firewood. I took that moment to shimmy into the oversized clothing and move from the spot I seemed to be living in. With my phone in my hand I took a seat on the small couch seated directly in front of the fire place. I watched him work on building the fire and tried to get some signal on my phone.

“Don’t happen to have WI-FI do you?” I prayed he did but knew it was a slim chance.

“No!” Came Mason’s resounding answer.

“Okay, don’t have to bite me head off about it,” I remarked.

His back was still to me and I decided to be quiet. Over the unobtrusive noise he was making I could tell that the rainfall has started to slow. Maybe he’d be able to drive me back into town and I could hop on the next chartered flight out of this place.
