Wilder laughs, but the joke is lost on me. “If the alarm in the shop goes off for any reason, we’ll get an alert, and so will you.”

“Me?”

He nods. “Yeah, you. I want you to feel as safe as you can, Maven, despite what you think of me and my club.”

“I know you’re not a bad guy, but given my current situation, it’s hard not to be suspicious.”

He nods, accepting my words at face value. “Fine, be suspicious, but also know that my goal is to keep you safe.” He leans in closer and closer until one hand spears through my hair, and the other lands on my thigh a moment before his mouth captures my own.

The moment our lips touch, sparks fly like fireworks on the Fourth of July, and my heart pounds like a thousand horses galloping across it. His tongue still has a hint of the coffee he drank earlier, but it’s his smell that wraps around me and pulls me closer.

The only way to describe the kiss is otherworldly, which feels like the craziest shit to say, even to myself, because it’s silly and childish.

But I don’t feel like mousy little Maven when Wilder kisses me. I feel like a vixen, like a bold woman that men can’t help but notice.

He makes me feel like I’m someone else. Like a different, better version of myself. A sexier version of myself, one that could snag a hot young man like Wilder.

That thought brings me up short, and I pull back just enough that our breaths swirl together like we’re lovers instead of strangers. “Wilder.” I don’t know what else to say, but his name is where I stop.

His smile is wide and bright, his white teeth making his smooth, honeyed skin darker and sharper in the harsh overhead lighting.

“Yes, Maven?”

I smile at his playful words.

He smiles back.

Gia clears her throat, and I feel my face flame with heat and risk a glance in her direction to find her grinning from ear to ear.

Shit. I just let Wilder kiss me in front of Gia. Not justlethim kiss me, I was just as into it as he was, and she’d seen it all. What will she think of me now? That I’m just another biker groupie panting after Wilder? That I’m a pathetic old woman chasing after a man far too young for me?

“It’s okay,” he whispers in my ear. “I caught her taking it doggy style across her desk last week.” He smiles and wraps a finger around my hair with a short, playful tug.

“That’s her man,” I insist.

“You want me to be your man, Maven?”

Oh my God, my insides just melted.

I stand and take a step back. “I…uhm…I think I should get going.”

The fact that I’m going back to my informal cell is exactly why I refuse to answer that question.

Chapter Sixteen

Wilder

Damn. When that kiss is over, my heart is racing, my cock is hard, and my world feels a little fucking rocked. And now I’m standing here in front of Gia with a throbbing and twitching cock while she’s wearing a big ol’ shit-eating grin. “See you later, Gia,” I say pointedly.

Her smile grows even bigger as she stands and closes her laptop. “Happily. I got a big hot man waiting for me for dinner. Later, dude.” She can barely contain her laughter at witnessing me act like a fool over Maven. “Later, Maven,” she adds with a knowing grin.

Maven gives an embarrassed wave and looks away, which finally draws a laugh from Gia.

“Thanks for your help today, Gia. With everything.”

Finding those photos of Maven and scrubbing them from the net was a solid act, even if it has nothing to do with finding who’s trying to frame us for trafficking people.

“My pleasure. You kids have a…good night.” She snickers, waves one last time and rushes out of the office to meet up with Preacher.
