Silence settles inside the office without Gia as our barrier. Maven and I stare at each other wide-eyed as if neither of us could believe that kiss had happened.

Her tongue slips out and slicks across her lips, and I bite back a groan even as my cock grows and hardens. “Maven.”

The corners of her lips pull up into a smile. “Wilder.”

“Come on.” I nod toward the door and indicate for her to follow me.

She does, running to catch up to me. “Come on,where?”

I stop in the middle of the hall, and her lush curves smash against my back, especially those luscious tits. I groan and turn to face her. I know I shouldn’t have. She’s too close, and she smells like sugar and vanilla.

“You said you need clothes and other things, so we’re going to get them.”

Her brows dip in confusion. “We’re going shopping?”

“No, we’re going to your house to gather a few things. Does that work for you?”

Her expression brightens, and another of those sexy, slow smiles spreads across her face. “We are? I mean, yes, that works. That’s great, in fact. Let’s go!”

She darts around me down the hall and toward the front door of the clubhouse where I parked my bike.

I smile at the sight of her hips swinging as she walks away. But I take a moment to adjust the hard-on, making it impossible to walk before I can join her outside. Maybe if I play my cards right, I’ll find out if she tastes like vanilla and sugar everywhere.

That thought bolsters me, and I move a little quicker.

“This way.” I nod toward Ace’s truck. “Easier to carry stuff in this thing than on my bike.”

“Right.” She rolls her eyes and makes her way to the truck with a small smile. “Don’t some bikes come with those saddlebag thingies on the sides?”

I frown as she jumps in the car and reaches for the door I’m holding for her. “Yeah, but those fuckers weigh you down. The whole point of the bike is speed.”

“Speed?”

I nod. “Yeah, going fast. Vroom, vroom? Ringing any bells, babe?”

“Nope.” She gives the handle a yank, and I release it to jog around to the driver’s side. “I prefer life in the middle lane. It’s fast enough to get you where you’re going but not so fast that you miss the details.”

“Kind of like slow down and smell the roses?”

“Something like that,” she agrees with a proud grin.

“Well, then. I’ll have to show you how fun it can be to watch the world pass in a blur of colors. Then we can compare to see which you like better.”

“Fine,” she agrees easily, shocking the shit out of me. “But my way is better.”

I laugh and fire up Ace’s truck, aiming it toward the older section of Angel Harbor. Her duplex is older than some of the others on the block, but the residential neighborhood is nice. And safe.

Kids play on the sidewalks, tossing balls and enjoying a game of hopscotch while a group of older boys take turns doing tricks on their bikes.

“Why did you choose this neighborhood?”

Maven shrugs and smiles wistfully at the kids playing. “It’s a nice neighborhood filled with families and plenty of kids. The whole block feels lively most of the time. Why, what’s your neighborhood like?”

I turn into her driveway, smiling just to have her at my side before I back out and park on the street right out front.

“Play your cards right, and you might find out.” I jump from the truck, but not before I see her roll her eyes with a smile that looks a hell of a lot like affection.

Maven opens the door and hops out easily before I have a chance to open the door for her, and she looks around the neighborhood like an old friend.
