“Yeah.” After giving him a big hug, I settle him on my lap. “I have the day off, so maybe we can come up with something to do?”

“You took a Saturday off?” Liv asks, surprise in her voice.

“Actually, Marco told me not to come in today. He was sick of my attitude.”

She smiles but bites her lip, trying not to let it turn into a big grin.

“First, let’s eat. I’m worried your uncle stole all the pancakes.”

“Naw. Savannah said no and told him to not be a jerk.”

I smile as I lean over to kiss Liv on the cheek, then rise, holding Sammy in my arms. I hold my hand out to Callie. She takes it easily, her little hand a perfect fit for my big calloused one. We walk back into the dining area. Houdini is sitting close enough to Sammy to make sure to grab any scraps that may fall and keep an eye on Savannah as she cooks. There is an empty chair next to Liv, and she smiles at me.

Yes. This is the woman for me.

The panic that used to come at that thought, and the fear that hit me when I thought I would never get her back, is a memory. Instead, warmth fills me as I take my seat.

She leans closer to me to whisper in my ear. “All good?”

I nod. “No worries.”

“So, we now have two cooks in the family. If Gerry would move back from New York and marry a man with a cleaning service, my life would rock,” Avery says.

We all laugh as Liv and I dig into breakfast. It’s delicious, of course. By the time I finish breakfast, Callie sits on the other side of me, Sammy is on my knee, and Houdini is at my feet.

I slip my arm around Liv as my entire soul settles, and my heart fills with happiness.

Life doesn’t get better than this little slice of bliss.

Epilogue 1

LIV

Istep back and look at myself in the mirror. I opted for casual tonight as Mason told me not to get dressed up. The royal blue sleeveless shirt shows just a hint of cleavage, and the khaki shorts show off my long legs. Avery did my hair, pulling it into a high ponytail for what she called a “Barbie” effect. I kept my makeup light since it’s still hot as Hades right now, but she convinced me to use red lipstick.

“I want big thanks,” Avery announces as she steps into my room.

“And why is that?”

“I talked you into getting that mani/pedi. Callie was thrilled, and you look fantastic.”

“Mason won’t care about my nails. I told you that.”

She settles on my bed next to Houdini. “And I told you that Mason notices everything about you.”

I shake my head just as the doorbell rings. Houdini bounds off the bed and rushes to the front door. Before I can get there, Sammy is opening it up. God, Mason is a pretty man. He’s wearing a green shirt and jean shorts, so I at least know I dressed right for the night.

“Mason, hi!”

“Hey there, Sammy.”

“Did you come over to play?”

It’s at that moment, Mason notices me walking down the hallway. His gaze slips down my body, then back up. Heat fills his eyes as he shakes his head.

“I’m taking your mama out tonight. Remember, I talked to you about it.”

That’s the first I heard about them having a discussion.
