“Oh, yeah. That’s right.”

“Are you sure you’re okay with it?”

Oh, God, how did I ever think I would be able to NOT fall in love with this man? My kids might have him wrapped around their fingers, but I’m definitely a goner.

Sammy turns and finds me standing there. “Oh, there you are. Mason said you’re going out.”

I nod. “You okay with that buddy?”

Callie steps up. “We’re both okay with it. Besides, that means we get to stay home with Avery.”

“Score!” Sammy shouts.

“Seriously? I’m being replaced by my younger sister.”

Callie smiles. “Yeah. I mean, she is the cool aunt.”

“See! I have been telling all of you losers—”

“You mean your family?”

“Yeah. I’ve been telling all of you that I was the cool aunt. I ordered pizza and we’re going to watchEncantoagain.”

Both the kids squeal and I can’t help but laugh.

Avery crosses her arms and looks at them. “But first, there are two kids who have to clean up their rooms.”

My kids race off to do her bidding, and I want complain. I ask them to clean up their rooms and they act like I asked for a blood oath.

“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Avery says as she heads to the kitchen, Houdini hot on her heels.

“That’s kind of scary,” Mason says.

I smile. “Yeah. She was voted by the rest of us as most likely to be a cult leader. People just do things for her.”

“You look amazing.”

“Not too casual?”

He shakes his head. “Perfect. Ready?”

“Yeah, just need my sandals and my purse.”

Five minutes later we’re flying down Crawford Road.

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“First, we’re stopping by the Jar to pick up dinner.”

“But we aren’t eating there?”

He slants me a smile. “Nope.”

He pops the “p” and I want to scream. “It’s not that I’m a control freak. But I need to know where we’re going.” He slants me an amused look, but says nothing.

“For the kids. They need to know where I am.”

“Well, Avery knows.” I pick up my phone and get ready to text her, but he says, “She’s sworn to secrecy.”
